As Jessica sat in the back of the cab on her way back to the house, she gazed out of the window, her thoughts drifting along with the passing cityscape.
She found herself thinking about Damon and wondering if he was still mad at her. Jessica bit her lower lip as anxiety stirred in her chest.
Staying away from the house all day had been a relief and she was beginning to think that maybe she should avoid him a little longer and give him time to cool down.
But then she remembered something that made her exhale softly, releasing some of the tension gripping her. He had said he won't be home tonight, she reminded herself.
She could return to the house without having to tiptoe around him or endure his brooding presence.
The cab rolled to a stop at a red light, and Jessica's gaze flickered toward her phone on the seat beside her. She hadn't heard from Delilah since she left in the afternoon.
