Jessica's face went pale, her eyes wide with shock as Delilah's words sank in. She stared at her sister in disbelief, her breath catching in her throat.
"You were pregnant? Delilah, why didn't you tell me?" Jessica's voice was a mixture of hurt and confusion.
Delilah shook her head, avoiding Jessica's gaze, her lips pressed into a thin line. "Because I didn't want to talk about it, Jess. I didn't want to remember it," she said quietly, her voice thick with the weight of the memory.
"After what happened, I started to wish I had taken the money from Conner's mother when she offered it. Instead of deluding myself into believing that Conner and I could work it out, that our love would conquer everything." She gave a bitter laugh. "I was such a fool."
