Jessica stood outside, watching and waving at Emily as Sharon drove away with Emily in the backseat. The sound of their laughter faded into the distance, leaving the whole place silent.
She lingered a moment longer, lost in her thoughts as she grappled with the weight of her recent misconceptions.
Her stomach twisted. She had assumed too much. The idea that Damon and Sharon were married had festered in her mind, making her see everything through a warped lens. Now that Sharon had cleared things up, Jessica wasn't sure how to feel. A mixture of relief and embarrassment flooded her.
