Chereads / The Fallen Star's Mercenary / Chapter 6 - Colossal

Chapter 6 - Colossal

"State your name!" A gigantic stone golem sculpted in the shape of a warrior yelled, the vibrations of his voice shaking the ground under my feet. Fear assaulted my entire body from watching this colossal stare daggers at me. Damn it! What now..? I traced the source of the tremors earlier solely based on my survival instincts, and now this.

The path led to a dimly lit environment with withered trees growing from the frailest of soils that made the ground beneath my feet. The eerie environment however was the least of the attentive details generally, the golem stood at over three stories tall with glowing red eyes and smaller rocks falling off its joints and body. In this compound, there were no other signs of life aside from myself. Regardless with my brain working on full gears, I offer the bravest and my most canny response.

"I am Nameless. The [Nameless Star]. I'm not looking for any trouble, I just lost my way!" I answered with a certain person in mind.

"Hey, What're you doing right now?" Nameless asked with a rather calm voice. He must be thrilled I'm finally honoring him for once. Definitely, if I were to use his authority as a former god or something, they wouldn't mess with a god now, would they? The plan sounded almost perfect in my thoughts.

"You're a former god, right? Maybe he'll let us leave if I tell him it's you. And if you leak a little of your power, he may be convinced" I replied with my impeccable plan. I could already see it all playing out.

"No that's not what I'm saying--" Nameless tried to explain but I interrupted.

"Shut it for once, will you? I'm trying to get us out of your mess. Now leak some aura unless you want us to die." It was bad enough that I was trying to save our sorry hides, the golem had already begun cracking his knuckles and glaring even more intensely than before. It's now or never.

"As you wish" Nameless declared before pouring out chaotic and bone-chilling essence from my soul. If I weren't the source of all this ether, I would be lying flat on the ground right now. Long dead.

"Great, Now just keep it up while I get a bit closer to him." I confidently strut towards the angered golem maintaining my upward gaze. The aura I radiated was every bit and even more menacing than the golem. With this momentum--

"Damned Twilight!!! To think you would stoop so low as to come to the boundaries of hell!!!" The golem screamed at the top of his voice, causing cracks that ruptured the ground up to thousands of meters. Huh? He seemed rather angry. I would've been blown away if I hadn't been shielding myself in Nameless'd aura.

Just then, I heard a brief exasperated sigh from my inner mind.

"As I was trying to say, Twilights and Underworlds are sworn enemies. Or the correct way to put it would be, the Underworlders hate the Twilights with every fiber of their being. The reasons are a bit complicated since the hatred goes back to the beginning of time. So, calling yourself a Twilight was just a way to declare war on the entire land." Nameless explained calmly. I was stiff from both shock and fear, my heart sank deeper and deeper with every single highlight of hatred.

I returned my gaze to meet the fuming golem putting his right leg forward, preparing to stomp me to death.

"There's an attack coming from above. Run forward and get to the blind side of his field of vision as fast as possible!" Nameless issued out commands unperturbed by the current situation, and of course, I mindlessly followed.

Without wasting a single second, I dashed forward with a leap and almost immediately after I did, a gushing wind followed behind me. At the corner of my eye, I could see a gigantic foot sweeping off the area where I stood a few seconds ago.

I was now behind the right leg of the golem whose left leg was returning to its prior position so he could regain balance. The sheer force from his reflex return could kill me, however, perhaps due to my evolution into a semi-spiritual lifeform, all my physical abilities were far higher than when I would use my physical enhancement skill. His movements, although horrifically fast for his size, appeared so slow and predictable in my eyes.

"Don't lose focus! We're not done until he's done. So hold his right leg with both your hands and breathe in as hard as you can." Nameless instructed again, and as if by second nature, I complied and did as he commanded. I wrapped my fingers and palms around the ankle of the golem and filled my lungs with...

Ether? I suddenly realized. The atmosphere was filled with ether, almost as though it was completely made out of it. The sensation of breathing in something other than air felt weird but to think that I had been focusing on the air rather than the rich ether in the atmosphere all my life.

"Alright. True Frozen Arts " Just as the last time, almost simultaneously as he released his Frozen arts, his entire foot was encompassed with ice.

"Gahh" the golem yelled in surprise. With his foot frozen solid, he lost some of his balance and as such, let down his guard. The exact moment we had been waiting for.

"Break!!" I yelled immediately and punched the frozen foot into shattered pieces. The golem obviously unable to find his footing with a foot missing, falls back first to the ground with a heavy thud.

A golem is made up of nothing but stones, so feeling pain was out of the equation. So even when they lose body parts, they can keep fighting, until they are completely destroyed.

Just as I was about to start my gloating, the ground began its tremors once more. The Golem rolled over on its side to face me, swinging its fist at full throttle. Of course, even if it's a surprise attack, from something that slows, there could never be any surprises. I leap out of the way and his fist meets nobody home.

"You cursed Twilight!! Must you take everything away from us!? You must rue the day you created me!! I will make sure of that!!" The golem roared again causing cracks and ruptures in the earth, however, the aura shielded me once more. From the way he acted, I almost pitied him.

"I don't know what you're talking about. If you're so mad at the Twilights, then go fight them, not me!" I jumped back on top of his arm before he could retrieve it. After experiencing it twice, the sensation of the true Frozen arts was gradually leaking into my system. I should be able to use it after a few times but for now,

"Take it from here Nameless." I'll leave it to the teacher.

"True frozen arts " Nameless cast again, this time completely enveloping and shatteringly the arm of the golem. "Quickly now, head into his right eye. His core is in his right eye, so you turn it off you have to retrieve it." The golem unaware of our plot prepared to use his other hand to hit again.

"Will do!" With two leaps I reach the top of his head. The golem probably realizing my intentions, rapidly tried to cover his right eye, but as always, he was just too slow.

I jumped straight into the eyehole and came in contact with a glowing red crystal pill. The pressure radiating from the pill was nothing to even imagine yet it surprised me how such a little pill could power such a powerhouse.

"So this is how you intend to do away with me? I have no regrets dying to my enemy, however, know that no one in this realm will let you live without dying first." Just as I held the pill, the golem's supposed last words resounded through the insides of the skull. If he weren't trying to kill me, I would've felt really bad about this.

"Hey, Do you have a name?" I asked to give a last tribute to my first-ever real opponent.

"Like I'd tell my name to a Twilight." The golem responded his last before turning off. I pulled the red pill from its rocky placeholder and thus ended the life of the golem

"... Is that so?..." Nameless from within me heaved a heavy sigh at the final response of the golem.
