Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Yuna's evolution

For several agonizing days, David waited anxiously for something—anything—that would explain what had happened to Yuna. He scoured every inch of the BioLab, searching for a clue that would reveal what had encased her in the strange cocoon. Each day, he felt hope slipping further away, his mind running wild with possibilities. Was it a monster's doing? An unknown side effect of her evolution? Every lead turned up nothing, and as the days passed, the weight of Yuna's absence became heavier.

David, who had once been driven by a strict routine of training, began to falter. He abandoned his exercises, neglecting even the basics of self-care. His only focus was Yuna—he slept on the floor next to her cocoon, hoping that his presence might somehow protect her. He barely ate, and his body began to show the signs of wear: dark circles under his eyes, a gaunt face, and trembling hands from exhaustion and malnutrition. Yuna's absence had taken a toll on him that he hadn't expected. She had become more than just a companion; she had become a part of him.

On the fifth day, something shifted within him. He woke with a sudden surge of determination, his mind snapping out of the fog of despair. He looked at Yuna's cocoon and clenched his fists. 'She's survived for centuries—this can't be the end for her,' he thought resolutely. 'She'll pull through this. I just have to be patient.'

With renewed purpose, David threw himself back into training. He would wake every morning, visit Yuna, and then head to the training area. He pushed his body harder than ever, hoping that by the time Yuna emerged, he would be strong enough to protect her from whatever might come next. He trained twice a day, exhausting himself with long hours of physical conditioning and honing his magic. This became his routine, a ritual that kept his hope alive.

On the fourteenth morning, David visited Yuna's room like always. His steps were heavy with fatigue, and the exhaustion was clear in his eyes. He approached the cocoon, speaking softly, his voice hoarse from days of little sleep.

"Yuna, I'm here again," David said, his voice filled with a mixture of hope and desperation. "Are you still not ready to come out? Please… I don't know how much longer I can take this. I need you…"

Just as he was about to leave the room, a brilliant flash of light erupted from the cocoon. David spun around in shock, his eyes widening as the cocoon began to pulse with vibrant colors—reds, blues, and purples swirling together in a mesmerizing display. The light intensified, growing brighter and brighter until it became almost blinding. David shielded his eyes, his heart racing with both excitement and fear.

Then, with a sharp crack, the cocoon shattered, the pieces dissolving into glowing particles that filled the room. David cautiously opened his eyes, blinking away the spots of light in his vision. When the glow finally dimmed, he saw her—Yuna—floating above the bed, suspended in mid-air.

Her transformation was stunning. She had changed in ways David couldn't have imagined. Two small, elegant horns protruded from her head, curling slightly backward. Her once-silver hair had grown longer, now reaching down to her wrists, shimmering with an otherworldly glow. Her eyes, which had once been a calm blue, now burned with a deep crimson hue, filled with a mysterious power. And her wings—magnificent, ethereal wings—had emerged from her back, a mixture of red and black feathers that seemed to pulse with energy.

As Yuna slowly descended onto the bed, David rushed forward, his heart leaping with relief and joy. Without thinking, he threw his arms around her, pulling her into a tight embrace. "Yuna!" he shouted, his voice filled with raw emotion. "You're okay! I was so worried about you. Don't ever scare me like that again!"

Tears streamed down David's face, though he hadn't even realized he was crying. The weight of the past two weeks—the fear, the loneliness, the uncertainty—finally came crashing down on him. He buried his face in her shoulder, overwhelmed with relief.

Yuna, however, seemed confused by his reaction. She gently patted his back, trying to comfort him. "What happened, David? Why are you acting like this?" she asked softly. "Did something happen while I was asleep?"

David pulled back slightly, wiping his tears as he looked at her, bewildered. "You don't remember?" he asked in disbelief. "You've been trapped in that cocoon for fourteen days! I couldn't do anything to help you—I tried everything I could think of, but nothing worked. I was so scared that I'd lost you…"

Yuna blinked in surprise. "Fourteen days?" She glanced down at her body, taking in her new appearance. Then, she remembered the Moon Frost Queen's words—two weeks to complete her evolution. "I was in hibernation?" she muttered to herself, piecing it together.

David nodded. "Yes… but what happened to you, Yuna? You look completely different."

Yuna closed her eyes and began to focus on the power surging within her. She could feel the immense energy coursing through her veins, stronger and more refined than before. As she concentrated, the temperature in the room began to plummet, frost creeping along the walls and floor as her newfound ice magic activated unconsciously.

"Yuna! Stop!" David shouted, stepping forward as the cold air bit at his skin. He could see the frost spreading, the very air around Yuna becoming frigid.

Yuna snapped her eyes open, startled by David's voice. She quickly reined in her power, and the temperature began to stabilize. The frost on the walls slowly melted away, leaving only a thin layer of condensation. She looked at David, guilt evident in her expression. "I'm sorry, David. I didn't mean to… I'm still adjusting to all this power."

David took a deep breath, relieved that the freezing had stopped. "Yuna," he said firmly, "you need to tell me everything. What happened to you? What is this power? I want to know it all."

Yuna nodded and motioned for David to sit beside her on the bed. She took a deep breath and began to explain everything that had happened—her encounter with the Moon Frost Queen, the realization that she was forming a soul, and the gift of power that had been bestowed upon her. She told him about her mother, the Queen, and the legacy that had been passed down to her.

David listened intently, his eyes wide with astonishment. It was hard to believe—this ancient demon queen, a figure from a forgotten era of destruction, had given Yuna the gift of life and made her an heir. And yet, seeing the transformation Yuna had undergone, he couldn't deny the truth of it.

"So… you're a demon now," David said, his voice filled with a mix of awe and uncertainty. "What happens next?"

Yuna smiled softly. "What happens next?" she echoed. "We stick to our plan. We head east. Just because I've evolved doesn't mean anything changes between us. I'm still the same Yuna." She hesitated for a moment before adding, "Unless you… don't want me around anymore."

David quickly shook his head. "No! That's not it at all!" he said hurriedly. "I want you by my side, no matter what. You're stronger now, and honestly… I couldn't do any of this without you. We're a team, Yuna."

Yuna's smile widened, her heart swelling with relief and gratitude. "Good," she said firmly. "Because I don't plan on leaving you either." Her tone became a bit more playful, though there was a hint of possessiveness in her voice. "We're in this together, David. Don't even think about leaving me behind."

David chuckled nervously, feeling a slight chill run down his spine at her words. "Right… I wouldn't dream of it," he said quickly. He had never seen this side of Yuna before, and while it was a bit intimidating, it also made him feel more connected to her than ever. Whatever had changed inside her, it hadn't affected their bond.

Yuna's stomach growled, interrupting the moment. She laughed lightly, rubbing her abdomen. "I guess evolving takes a lot of energy. I'm starving. Let's go have breakfast."

David nodded and they went to the kitchen. In the kitchen Yuna started to prepare meat of animal that they had hunted. David helped her with the soup. They finally finished and started eating. Yuna was looking at food like never before.

"Wow, it smells so nice." Yuna said taking a smell of steak. She used forks and took a bite of it. "Hmmm. So tasty. It is the first time I am able to test. It's really good feeling, I am really become human or rather demon." She was overjoyed, she could finally eat and feel the taste as well. She was in world of ecstacy, she started eating faster.

David seeing her couldn't help but laugh. She was acting like a little child who act after getting there favourite sweets. "Slow down Yuna, food is not going anywhere. If it finishes, I will make you more." David said, looking Yuna gobbled as much she could and choked. He gave her a bottle of water.

"Thanks." She said and continued to eat her food but this time slowly. After they finished their meal, Yuna took David to the room beside the training room saying she had something to test.when the reached there, there was three same type of capsules. They had scanners placed all around it.

Yuna showing the capsules said to David, "I forgot to bring you here before. I found this place when you were in the evolution process. This place is where we can taste our power levels."

"Now, that's interesting. Let's test and see how powerful we are." David said excitement in his eyes. He went to the capsules and saw, three was something written on the side. There was on top S then downwards A, B, C, D, E. "Is it the rank of power written on the side?" He asked Yuna.

"Yes but it is a outdated ranking system. It was used before human had discovered about other races and their power. So our power levels here might be different in other places." Yuna informed him.

Yuna activated the machine and let David go to the capsules first. David's went in. The scan started, after sometime the indicator beeped. That was the sign of test complete. The result was side of the indicator screen where was written what David's power rank was.
