Unlike a normal ritual, Roger felt his spirit being carried by the Ritual Array in the darkness, apparently conveying some message.
There was no response, and he waited patiently, listening to the snap and crackle of the white candle on the table, as the scent of burning hollyhock permeated the air.
This was a new ingredient specially added for this ritual.
His spirit bobbed and floated in the darkness until finally, the familiar voice that Roger had sent out found an answer.
"Mr. Mist."
"Should I call you Paladin, or..."
"Gawain."
A resolute voice came from the darkness, and then the black void before him was torn asunder, revealing a face.
It was no longer the guise of a Paladin but the Radiant Knight whom Roger had seen once before.
"You played us all for fools," Gawain said with a bitter smile.
