Durin's arrival received the warmest welcome from the soldiers. These young people, hailing from the manors of the Great Wilderness and the lands of Lublin, scrambled to shake hands with Durin, their faces brimming with joyful smiles.
The old routine continued, with Durin having lunch alongside the soldiers—mashed potatoes, half a loaf of white bread, and meat soup with added salt.
For mortals of this era, white bread was already a rare treat, and mashed potatoes could even be refilled, a luxury not typically found in the average farmer's household.
And meat soup with salt was something that usually only existed in dreams within the human civilization—since the nobles' hunting grounds, with their rabbits, fish, and even insects, were out of reach for farmers.
Only farmers from the three regions in the East occasionally had the chance to enjoy such a meal, so this was indeed a feast for the soldiers.
