New Year for the Grassland Elves was less a holiday than it was a ritual.
If the Harvest Festival was about praying to the Dual Mothers (Nuwa) for good weather and harvests in the coming year, then the New Year ceremony was about beseeching the Dual Mothers (Nuwa) for the prosperity of the family in the year ahead.
To others, these ceremonies seemed very solemn, yet for Durin, who had lived a previous life in a world without deities, such rituals felt somewhat...awkward.
Even though Durin knew that true gods existed in this world, when memories from two lifetimes interwove, he still couldn't help sighing at the different rituals between the Eastern Land and the Western Lands—represented by Old Man and Mr. Yan, the Eastern Land Grassland Elves worshipped Nuwa with burning incense, while his own mother and sister paid homage to the Dual Mothers in an all-night vigil.
I have come to understand very deeply what regional differences are.
Eleven was profoundly moved by this.
