Within a week, a larger village was thus established.
The Stone Giants paved the roads with stones for the village, and in return, Durin slaughtered another Giant that did not understand human speech from the nearby mountains and gave its territory to him as master.
"Guard this village, and this land shall be your eternal territory. Whoever refuses to accept it, just call on me," Durin said.
As for that Giant Tree Spirit Essence, during that time, it sneaked back. Durin was curious why it had returned.
Then from its den, he found a nest of tiny Wood Elves.
Moved by compassion, Durin ultimately set rules with the Spirit Essence that did not like humans—the villagers were allowed to chop wood for warmth and building materials. Similarly, they were responsible for planting saplings, nurturing the forest, and preventing the spread of wildfires. And most importantly, they were not to harm any little Elves, but if a little Elf broke the rules, the Spirit Essence must stop them.
