Walking all the way to the Temple of the Dual Mothers in Copenhagen, Durin could see the unique twin spires from a distance—in an age where each temple's spires were singular, the twin spires represented the image of the Dual Mothers, which was very distinctive.
There was a hell of a joke that during the final stages of the civil war in the Northern Kingdom, the Temple of the Dual Mothers was the only place that hadn't been bombarded, because the kingdom's artillerymen refused any lunatic orders from their commanders to fire at the location of the twin spires, and commanders who wanted to execute the artillerymen were always shot by soldiers who believed in the Dual Mothers first.
So, when Durin approached this temple, whose walls were riddled with bullet holes and scars of war, he was still surprised by its simplicity.
This is older than any other temple I've ever seen.
