Peck Nash bought a newspaper from the gnome newsboy and observed the busy streets in his black overcoat.

"The person should be in the small building behind you. Just now, two guys left, talking about never speaking up," the newsboy whispered under the pretext of making change.

"Keep the change." Peck didn't take the coins, he patted the gnome's head, signaling him to get far away. Rivalries among the Copenhagen newsboys were intense, and this one had always operated in the west of the city; clearly, he was overstepping his boundaries this time.

He sure didn't want to rescue that lynx cub from the Ghost Gate only to have to fish out the gnome's body from some gutter afterward.

"Thanks." The gnome newsboy said, then put on his cap—signifying he was off duty.

Peck noticed several halflings gathering around, but seeing the newsboy pack up, they smiled and dispersed.
