The University of Washington was established in 1861 and has now developed for three years, making it a very young university.
Its predecessor was called the Territorial University of Washington, established in Seattle by Governor Isaac Stevens of the Washington Territory in 1854.
The Washington Territory was one of the incorporated territories in American history, existing from 1853 to 1889.
The Washington Territory was carved out from the northern part of the Oregon Territory. On November 11, 1889, the Washington Territory joined the Union as the state of Washington.
As a favored child of the Union, the University of Washington enjoys funding far above other universities and is a key focus of federal support.
Although it has only been developed for three years now, its size can already be discussed alongside some of the more established universities.
