Zhou Mudan walked to the door of one of the houses and gently knocked on the courtyard gate.
"Who's there?" a slightly elderly voice asked from inside, accompanied by the sound of approaching footsteps.
Before long, the courtyard door was opened.
The door was opened by an old woman who, upon seeing the group of people outside, seemed a bit surprised, "Who are you looking for?" She didn't recognize anyone; they must have the wrong house.
"Auntie, we've come to ask you about something. Do you know where that haunted house is?" Zhou Mudan asked the old woman with a smile.
"That would be the one down the alley with the big vermilion doors, looking quite grand. The house looks bright and cheerful since it's been renovated; the eerie feeling is gone. Even when you come back at night, it feels like daytime," the old woman explained with a smile.
