Mingshu was completely oblivious to what had happened, noticing Wang Yuan looking somewhat downcast, she raised her eyes, puzzled, and opened her mouth, intending to show some concern.
A faint reminder came from Si Chu beside her, "Just focus on eating."
So much for small talk.
Reprimanded out of the blue, Mingshu obediently withdrew her gaze and with a hint of grievance, let out a subdued "Oh."
She glanced at the large chicken leg in her bowl, hesitated for half a second between maintaining her ladylike image and appreciating the kind gesture, and eventually chose the latter.
She bowed her head and quietly began to gnaw on it.
The Prefect's Wife came over with the last soup, smiling warmly, "Our humble abode doesn't have much to offer, this is all we can serve. I hope everyone won't mind."
Given the circumstances, everyone understood this was the best they could offer right now.
