Chapter 5 - Chatting With the System

A few hours later, Alesha had successfully reunited with her parents, catching up on the various family events she'd missed out on and filling them in on what had happened in her life. Most of which was irrelevant now, she thought bitterly. Her parents hadn't pressed her to talk about the Faxton Tragedy once she'd said she wanted to adjust for a few days before doing so. She was grateful for that. If she could talk to her university friends about it, she might feel better, but Alesha didn't have any of their numbers memorized, so she couldn't try to contact them even if they had survived that stupid disaster. Her phone had apparently not been on the list of priorities when the Rescue Team had pulled her from the rubble of her apartment in Faxton.

She plopped onto the mattress her parents had set up for her in the office and closed her eyes. "Hey Syste--wait, sorry, Rogork, is there any chance you can like, enhance my memory and pull out the numbers of my friends from back when I put them into my phone?"

[... Are you dumb? I'm not your slave, stupidhead.]

Alesha grit her teeth at the System's sudden overt hostility. "Hey, I didn't say you were, I was just asking you a question, Rogork," she said, emphasizing the System's self-assigned name, trying to complete the quest before she forgot the bizarre combination of letters that the System insisted was a name.

[While I do like that you're using my name, which by the way this brings you to 4/10 uses for the quest's purposes, you can't flatter me into giving you a different answer. And I can tell you're not doing it sincerely, even if I am nice and overlooking the fact.]

Sighing, Alesha gave up. "Alright, I guess you can't do it then. I won't bother you about it anymore."

[Good.]

Cracking one eye open, Alesha waited for the System to add something else. It didn't. "Guess reverse psychology didn't work," she grumbled aloud.

[Nope! You can't fool me!] The System pridefully insisted, [I'm an extradimensional entity attached to your very soul, and my thinking speed and perceptivity are both vastly superior to yours. I can tell what you're going to say before you say it, I can identify what you're feeling before you notice you're feeling it, I can detect your true motives before it even occurs to you to question yourself!]

Alesha's eyes snapped open at this. If that was true… then she was in a lot of trouble. A sick feeling of dread entered her stomach as she started to think through the possible ramifications of such a thing. If it were true, then this entity, this System that called itself Rogork, would know Alesha better than she knew herself, and depending on its motivations could do whatever it wished with her.

If Rogork had a face, it would have been smirking quite intensely right now. [That's right, host, you're powerless before me. I am an incomprehensible entity to you, but you have nothing you can hide from me. So you'd better do your best to stay on my good side… hehehhehe] WIth that, a little purple display popped up in front of her eyes, on which was a simple emoticon: >:3

Alesha laughed a little at the emoticon, which disappeared a moment later. "Alright Rogork, you scare me a little but I promise I'll try to get along with you. Speaking of which, would you mind telling me more about what you are, and what your goals might be? You said you're here to guide me to becoming a Servant of Chaos, but what is that exactly, and what might that entail?" She didn't like the sound of becoming a servant of anything, but wanted to ask before making any assumptions.

[I'm so glad you asked! Though the first question is rather stupid for you. I already told you I'm the Seed of Chaos System, and you already know a lot about Systems from all those novels and comics you read before, so I won't bother explaining. You might make a couple wrong assumptions but the information in your head is mostly accurate so I won't bother correcting you.]

[As for my goals, I'll also refrain from answering that. You already know the goal that matters: making you into a Servant of Chaos. That, however, I will explain. Simply put, a Servant of Chaos is an Agent of the Universe called forth to engage in the glorious cause of spreading Chaos! This isn't well-defined at all, since Chaos itself is a force that refuses to be limited to a constricting definition. In fact, it's so loose in interpretation that so long as you're making something chaotic in some way, you're probably doing your job right! But that's where I come in. As a 100% certified expert in Chaos, I'm here to guide and mold and help you in becoming the most efficient, most powerful Agent of Chaos you can be. And before you ask, since I can feel it coming, "Servant" and "Agent" are essentially the same in my eyes, though in your case you'll start off closer to "Servant" because you'll need some intensive training in order to get the right kinds of ideas.]

[I won't bother explaining the right kinds of ideas to you right now, since I'll be doing that all along the way, though I suppose I can give you a bit of a starter quest in that regard. Oh, and you might want to look in a mirror by the way. Your parents might have just missed it, or been too timid to say anything, but you certainly didn't notice it when you changed in the bathroom earlier. I was looking forward to your reaction so, shoo shoo, go look! Stop keeping me waiting.]

Startled by the System's last comments, Alesha quickly got up from her bed and hastened to the bathroom, where she looked at herself in the mirror. It didn't take her long to figure out what the System had meant. "Rogork," she asked in her head, "What happened to my eyes?!"
