Synopsis
Azrael is a murderer – there is no nice way to say it and he is perfectly aware of that. Pavel is a prostitute – destitute on the best of days and desperate to get himself out of poverty. Both are victims of their pasts. For many years now, Azrael has been watching Pavel from the shadows, unbeknownst to the other man. He saw first the rabbit when he was owned by a crime syndicate boss and was immediately struck with an intense desire to protect him. This has led to Azrael ‘removing’ many people who have hurt Pavel. He was satisfied doing just then but his simple routine was disrupted when the man collapsed in the street near Azrael after he unexpectedly ran in front of him. Unsure of what to do, he decided to nurse him back to health in his spare bedroom where certain truths and feelings would come to life. And the past never truly stays in the past… (Please be aware that, while the relationship is soft, their circumstances are not. R18 tag is for violence and triggering content, not smut scenes)

Chapter 1 - Prologue

Wrenched from my grasp, he vanished into the dark. The haze of nothing that my inept eyes were incapable of focusing on mocked me in its vastness. My hand was frozen in the air, grasping nothing.

Empty and alone.

Where is he?

I hunted for that radiating warmth in this waking nightmare. As I searched, it felt like the room was stretching into infinity. Hands reached out to nothing but cold air.

No walls.

No door.

It felt like the floor was falling out from under me.

Panic clung to me, like death's shroud. The silence was stagnant, not even my breathing cutting through it. Footsteps were lost as soon as they should have sounded.

How can this be real?

It can't be.

where are you where are you where are you where are you where are you where are you where are you where are you where are you where are you where are you where are you where are you where are you where are you where are you where are you where are you

All I could see was his face fading from view.

All I could see was the dark.

Is my heart even beating if he's not here?
