Chapter 82 - When I'm Alone(Eremika)

Chuckle....

The sound of Eren's laugh shattered the air, a maniacal chuckle filled with pain and madness, reverberating through the bloodied field.

His laughter was broken, like a man unraveling, his chest heaving as he bowed, his hands scraping through the muddy earth, fingers clutching at the ground in futile desperation.

The tears that fell from his eyes mixed with the dirt, his sobs muffled by the weight of everything that had come crashing down.

"Look at you!" Eren's voice cut through the air, his words like daggers in the quiet chaos. His gaze pierced the horizon, dark with rage and regret.

"You haven't changed a god damn bit!" Mikasa looked at him with awe her heart beating abnoramlly as tears started to well up in her own eyes.

"You're just as useless as you've always been… nothing, nothing's changed!" His words stung, slicing through the tension like a blade.

The pain in his voice was more than just anger; it was the raw, broken edge of a person who had been crushed under the weight of too many failures. And then, through his sobs, his voice softened, barely a whisper. "I'm sorry, mother... I'm just as useless as I've always been."

Mikasa's heart twisted as she watched him fall apart. Her tears spilled, her chest tightening with an unbearable sorrow. She moved toward him, the world around them fading as she closed the distance.

He was breaking, crumbling under the weight of it all, and she couldn't bear to see him like this.

(Here goes nothing...)

But as she reached him, a faint, fragile smile appeared on her face. Her trembling hand lifted, brushing gently against Eren's bloody cheek, wiping away a tear.

"Hey... stop it, that's not true," she whispered softly, her voice breaking the tension that had gripped the air. Her touch was the only anchor left for Eren, and it cut through the fog of his despair like a ray of light.

His gaze shifted between her and the titans, the world around him moving in slow motion. His mind was a blur of confusion and anguish. Why now? Why couldn't he do anything? Everything had happened so fast, so uncontrollably. His body was a battlefield, but his heart... his heart was somewhere else entirely.

Mikasa's voice broke through the chaos again, soft yet filled with conviction. "Listen... there's something I need to tell you..." She cupped his cheek with one hand, and with the other, she gently intertwined her fingers with his. His hand was shaking, bruised, and bloodied, but she held it like it was the most precious thing in the world.

Eren's breath caught in his throat as she whispered, "Thank you... for always being by my side." The words were like a balm to his soul, each one piercing deeper into him. His eyes, wide and uncertain, locked onto hers. She was beautiful, even in this moment, even amidst the horror of their reality.

"Thank you... for showing me how to live... with purpose," she continued, her voice trembling with emotion, yet filled with an undeniable strength. The steam rising between them seemed to carry away all their pain, their suffering, their hardships... everything they had fought for, everything they had endured, forgotten in the weight of this single moment.

Eren's heart pounded in his chest as he looked at her. Another titan lurked in the distance, its gaze fixed upon them as Eren's gaze shifted at him but Mikasa's touch against his cheek brought him back as if none of it mattered anymore. Not the titan, not the world outside.

In this moment, it was just the two of them, tangled in each other's presence, wrapped in something deeper than survival, something more profound than the battle they were losing.

Mikasa's fingers trailed to the scarf she wore, the one he had wrapped around her so long ago, a symbol of their bond. "My scarf... for always wrapping it around me... thank you," she whispered.

The words burrowed deep into Eren's chest, and he could hardly breathe as he stared into her charcoal-blue eyes.

"Mikasa?" Eren whispered but his words fell short.....

Mikasa leaned in, closing the gap between them, their worlds colliding in the most intimate way. Her lips brushed against his, soft and warm, the brush of her skin against his, a tender touch that ignited a fire deep within him.

Her arms wrapped around his neck, pulling him closer, her breath mingling with his, their bodies trembling, a storm of emotions flooding between them.

Tears streamed down both their faces, the weight of everything they had lost, everything they had fought for, pouring out in the quiet of the moment.

Eren's heart raced, his breath hitching in his chest. But in that moment, with Mikasa in his arms, everything else faded away. The world, the chaos, the titans—they were nothing. It was just them.

Slowly, Eren cupped her face, his touch gentle despite the turmoil inside him. He deepened the kiss, a wordless promise passing between them—a promise that even if this was how it ended, they would never regret a moment. They had this. They had each other. And that was enough.

The kiss lingered, a breathless exchange of everything they could never say, everything they had kept buried inside for so long. They pulled away only when they couldn't breathe any longer, their ragged breaths mixing in the cold air.

Their faces were scarlet red, eyes shining with emotion—sadness, love, and the bittersweet realization that this was their last chance as mist escaped from their laboured breaths.

Eren looked at her, his eyes filled with something softer, something more tender than she had ever seen in him. "Mikasa... I'll wrap that scarf around you... as many times as you want..." he promised, his voice low and determined.

With that, he stepped away, fists clenched, his body aching, but his resolve stronger than ever. The smiling titan loomed before them, its grotesque hands reaching toward them. Eren didn't hesitate. His voice rang out, filled with fury and relief, his anger burning hotter than ever.

"Now and Forever!!" he roared, charging forward, his fist aimed straight at the titan's palm.

But as he moved, everything else faded. This was his moment. Their moment. And he would not let it slip away. Not now. Not ever.

"HUHHH???" Eren's eyes widened his fist connecting to the titan's skin and he fell it, a jolt of lightning surged through him, sharp and electrifying. His mind burned with clarity, like a million connections snapping into place all at once.

For a brief, dizzying moment, he felt as though everything in the world was tied together by some invisible thread, as though the pulse of the earth, the beating of his own heart, and the roaring winds were all part of one force—something he had only felt once before after touching the Beast Titan.

A wave of energy surged within him, and his body reacted instinctively. His eyes turned a piercing blue, glowing with intensity as his teeth clenched. With a savage twist of his body, his muscles coiled, and a deafening boom sounded through the battlefield.

The smiling titan, her grotesque grin still stretched wide, stumbled back, her entire arm disintegrating into the air like ash, reduced to nothing but ragged stumps at the shoulders. She collapsed to the ground, the force of Eren's strike leaving her howling in pain.

"Die..." Eren whispered, his voice cold, barely audible as multiple aberrant titans, those that had been attacking the scouts, descended upon the now-helpless smiling titan.

They tore into her, their ravenous hunger consuming her as Eren stood unmoving, the heat of the moment still pulsing through his veins.

Mikasa watched in stunned silence, her heart pounding as she processed what had just happened. Eren had... He had done that.

She felt an awe that mingled with an unspoken fear, but before she could think too much on it, The aberrants swarmed around them, oblivious to the momentary lull, as they devoured the titan while Eren ran to bruised girl.

"Eren...?" Mikasa whispered, her voice shaking, as Eren sat down beside her his eyes seemed lifeless. His hand slowly moved beneath her shirt, his touch warm and electric against her cold skin, sliding all the way up.

Mikasa's face flushed crimson, a shock of heat rushing to her cheeks. She looked at him, confused, her heart pounding, the blush spreading across her skin as she asked quietly, " Ereh...What are you—"

But then, she saw it, Eren's body illuminated a faint silvery glow. "Uh...." Mikasa gasped as she felt it, the unbearable pain that had consumed her body—the broken bones, the bruises, the exhaustion—faded. As though the wounds themselves had never existed.

She gasped softly, her body reacting in disbelief, as she realized the pain had disappeared. The sense of fracture and weakness was gone. Her body felt whole again, as if she had just healed from the inside out.

"Eren..." she whispered again, her voice faltering as she realized what had just happened. It wasn't just his touch—it was the power he wielded. She could feel it, could sense the energy running through him, like a storm waiting to unleash.

"Hurry, Mikasa," Eren urged, his voice low but urgent, as his gaze flicked toward the horizon. Without waiting for a response, he gestured for her to get on his back.

She didn't hesitate, climbing onto him, trusting him without a second thought. His muscles tensed beneath her, the raw strength radiating off of him as he bolted forward, moving with a speed and power that made the ground seem to tremble beneath their feet.

But as they made their way, Eren's dead gaze narrowed, his entire body stiffening. He could feel it before he saw it—Reiner was approaching, his armored form cutting through the chaos like a living wall, his one hand clutching Ymir's body... It seems he had somehow retrieved her.

The sight of him, moving steadily towards them, filled Eren with relentless hatred. His heartbeat quickened, the blood pumping faster as his gaze darkened.

The surge of power inside him began to rise again, the same force that had torn through the smiling titan's arm now roiling in his chest.

"This is the worst..." Reiner muttered to himself, his pace quickening. "Why were the coordinates supposed to fall in his hands out of all the people... By god Eren you're the worst!"

Eren's eyes gleamed like a storm as he stopped in his tracks, planting his feet firmly into the ground. He turned slowly, his expression icy with fury. "Stop..." he whispered, his voice low and pained.

The Armoured Titan froze in place its knees buckling, confused for a moment, before the absurdity of it hit him.

But the sound of titans—a brutal horde—suddenly rushing towards them disrupted his focus. Before he could respond, the very titans that had taken down the smiling titan lunged toward the armored titan, as if commanded by some unseen force.

The aberrants, sensing weakness, descended upon Reiner and his comrade, their monstrous forms overwhelming the armored titan's defenses.

"The hell… Not again…" Reiner grunted, caught off guard as he raised his arms to defend himself. His armored titan form groaned under the assault, and the chaos erupted once more as the titans closed in, a wild frenzy of destruction taking over.

Just then, the sound of hooves pounding against the earth reached their ears, and Armin arrived, his face pale with exhaustion. He had Jean slung over his back, unconscious and weak, and his hand grasped the reins of another horse, urging Eren to get on. "We need to go. Now!"

Before Eren could respond, a commanding voice boomed across the field—Erwin, his figure unmistakable against the chaos. "SCOUTS, RETREAT!"

The scouts, their faces hardened with exhaustion and determination, began to retreat, pulling back from the battlefield as the danger continued to surge around them.

Mikasa was the first to climb onto the horse, her movements swift and instinctive. Eren followed, sitting behind her, his hand gripping the reins.

As the scouts retreated, the orange hue of the setting sun bathed the world in a somber light. It cast long shadows across Eren's face, highlighting the raw pain etched on his features.

His teeth clenched as the weight of everything—crushed him. He buried his face in Mikasa's shoulder, his breath ragged.

One hand clutched the horse's reins with white-knuckled intensity, while the other wrapped tightly around Mikasa's waist, pulling her closer, as if trying to anchor himself in the storm that raged inside him.

His breaths were shallow, shaky—each one burdened with the weight of his anguish. The steady rhythm of the horse's gallop was the only sound between them, yet the air felt suffocating, heavy with unspoken grief.

Mikasa's gaze traveled to the horizon, her charcoal eyes narrowing as the fiery orange hues of the setting sun stretched across the sky, a stark contrast to the pain radiating from Eren's trembling figure.

She never saw Eren like this never....

She didn't need to look at him to feel the tears streaming down his face, the way his sobs were suppressed as though he was too ashamed to let them out. Her heart ached, her own sorrow mingling with his.

Slowly, gently, Mikasa reached for his other hand—the one gripping the reins so tightly it seemed like he was trying to crush the leather beneath his fingers.

Her touch was soft, yet firm enough to catch his attention. She pried his fingers away, carefully wrapping his arm around her waist alongside the other, enclosing herself in his embrace.

"Eren," she whispered, her voice low and soothing, like a lullaby against the chaos around them. " It's okay... let it out..."

She tightened her own grasp on his hands, her fingers intertwining with his, steadying him in his turmoil.

Her heart broke further as she felt his face press deeper into her shoulder, his quiet sobs shaking them both. She didn't care about the blood that stained them, or the dirt that smeared their clothes.

All she cared about was Eren—his pain, his vulnerability, and the silent cry for comfort he couldn't voice.

As the horse galloped through the fading light of day, the two of them remained locked together, a fragile moment of intimacy amidst the devastation. The mission on whole was a success humanity's saviour was secured, but for Eren this victory seemed hollow.
