Chapter 37 - The Attack Titan

Dark clouds converged above Shiganshina, their turmoil mirroring Eren's rage. "I'll kill them all... Every last one..." His emerald eyes blazed with fury, his psychotic smile twisted, menacing. Bones crushed, ribs shattered, muscles torn apart – yet he stood, fueled by vengeance.

The air was heavy with anticipation, the very fabric of reality trembling with Eren's wrath. Then, a bolt of lightning sliced through the darkness, striking the Smiling Titan with a deafening crack. The creature's grip on Eren faltered. Levi, mid-air, altered his trajectory with incredible agility, avoiding the thunderclap by mere inches. The blast wave sent him tumbling through the air, his eyes fixed on Eren.

As the lightning's glow dissipated, the area ignited with an otherworldly energy. Flames danced across rubble, casting eerie shadows. Pure Titans, drawn by the thunder, lumbered towards the scene, their vacant eyes aglow with an unnatural hunger.

Levi landed on a rooftop, his gaze scanning the chaos. Fear and worry etched his face, his eyes wide with dread. Had he lost his protégé, his only family? His gaze scanning through the flames. " The hell is that!" Levi whispered as his grip loosened from his swords.

Darkness swirled, like ink spreading through water. The air rippled, heavy with anticipation. Flesh and bone began to materialize, coalescing from thin air. Tendons snapped into place, muscles bulged, and skin stretched taut.

A colossal form took shape, towering over the ruins. Emerald eyes blazed to life, illuminating the desolate landscape. The Attack Titan stood, its physique a testament to raw power. Chiseled muscles rippled beneath pale, almost translucent skin. Broad shoulders and a lean, athletic build exuded strength.

Its rebellious face, a twisted blend of human and monster, contorted in a snarl. The atmosphere was electric, with ominous clouds gathering as if drawn by the Titan's presence. The air vibrated with tension, heavy with the promise of destruction. Shiganshina's rubble-strewn streets seemed to tremble, acknowledging the Titan's dominance.

The Attack Titan's roar shook the ground, a primal declaration of fury: "AaaaRRRGGGHHHH!" As the sound faded, an unsettling silence fell, punctuated only by the creaking of twisted metal and the distant rumble of thunder.

The landscape became a witness to the Titan's unbridled power, its green eyes burning with an inner fire that seemed to consume everything in their path. The air was charged with anticipation, awaiting the devastation that was to come.

The Smiling Titan lay paralyzed, its massive body trembling from the thunder's aftershocks. Levi's gaze darted between the surrounding chaos, desperate to find a glimmer of hope.

"Maybe... just maybe... He could find Eren." Levi's thoughts trailed off as his eyes locked onto the approaching horde of Pure Titans.

"Shit..." he muttered, drawing his blades with a fluid motion. Clutching the sword handles in a reverse grip, Levi prepared for the onslaught.

Just as a 7-meter Class Aberrant Titan closed in, Levi's eyes widened in surprise. The Attack Titan's colossal fist hurtled towards the aberrant, connecting with a crushing blow.

The punch struck the Titan's chin with incredible force, uprooting its head from its body. The severed head soared through the air, crashing into a demolished house. The lifeless body crumpled, its massive frame collapsing onto the rubble.

Levi's gaze flicked back to the Titan, his expression a mix of awe and trepidation.

The Attack Titan's ear-piercing roar echoed through Shiganshina's ruins as it charged towards the remaining eight Titans. A towering Aberrant, its eyes blazing with fury, lunged forward.

The Attack Titan countered one of the Aberrant's attack with lightning speed, its massive fist connecting with a crushing blow to the Aberrant's gut. The punch's intensity was so severe that its fist pierced the Titan's abdomen. A second punch followed, striking the nape of the Aberrant's neck, ending its life instantly. Levi watched in awe, his eyes widened in surprise.

The Attack Titan's fighting techniques, determination, and raw power reminded Levi of someone – Eren Yeager. "Eren???" Levi whispered, his voice barely audible, laced with shock and curiosity.

Deploying his 3D maneuver gear, Levi sprang into action, taking down Titans beside the Attack Titan. His suspicion grew as the Titan continued to ignore him, focusing solely on the other Titans.

"Why isn't it attacking me?" Levi thought, his mind racing. "This... this can't be just a coincidence or maybe it's just another abnormal."

As Levi fought alongside the Attack Titan, he noticed subtle differences in its movements – a fluidity, a calculated precision that seemed almost... human.

Levi's gaze locked onto the Attack Titan's emerald eyes, searching for any glimmer of hope. "What is that thing?" he wondered. Just then, the last Titan ambushed the Attack Titan, its jaws wide open, biting down on its arm. But the attacker soon regretted its decision.

The Attack Titan unleashed a flurry of punches, each one landing with precision and force, imprinting fist-shaped patterns on the Titan's chest as the titans frail body backed down from the force. The assault was relentless, a blur of motion. A swift elbow strike connected with the Titan's head, sending it stumbling to the ground a technique someone once used on Levi. The Attack Titan seized the moment, delivering a crushing blow to the nape, ending the Titan's life instantly.

The dust settled, revealing the Attack Titan standing victorious amidst the carnage. Levi approached cautiously, his eyes fixed on the emerald gaze. The Attack Titan's gaze shifted, locking onto Levi. For an instant, Levi swore he saw a flicker of recognition.

"Eren???" Levi whispered his eyes widened in surprise.

Suddenly the Attack Titan's deafening roar echoed through the ruins as its body began to crumble, steam billowing from its collapsing form. Levi's unwavering gaze followed the Titan's descent.

Levi's gaze shifted at the ruins, worry etched on his face. He prepared to search for Eren's body beneath the rubble what made him think that the titan was Eren. But then, his gaze fell upon the Titan's nape. Levi's eyes widened in astonishment. A frail figure emerged from the melted skin, like a phoenix rising from ashes. Levi's breath caught. "Eren??" he whispered, hope and trepidation entwined.

Deploying his 3D maneuver gear, Levi sprinted towards the figure, footsteps echoing through the desolate alley. His heart pounded with anticipation. As he approached, Levi saw Eren's exhausted face, pale and covered in tendens that connected to the decomposing titans body. Eren's emerald eyes, now dim, locked onto Levi steam escaping his mouth followed by his heavy breaths before crumbling in Levi's arms.

"Eren, it's me... Levi," he said softly, gently lifting Eren into his arms. Eren's lips parted, a faint whisper escaping: "Levi... I..." Levi's expression softened, relief washing over him. "Don't talk, Eren. We need to get out of here." A solitary tear escaped Levi's eye, betraying his stoic facade. Relief washed over him like a wave, soothing his frayed nerves. Eren's battered and bruised body was fully healed which made Levi a bit suspicious and yet happy.

Eren's eyelids fluttered shut, his emerald gaze disappearing into darkness. His mind still reeled with questions, but exhaustion claimed him, pulling him under. As darkness enveloped his vision, Eren's thoughts fragmented, lost in a sea of shadows. His body relaxed, surrendering to unconsciousness.

Levi cradled Eren's limp form, his arms wrapping around him like a shield. The silence was oppressive, punctuated only by the distant rumble of thunder and the faint creaking of twisted metal.

Shiganshina's ruins loomed around them, a haunting testament to the devastation. The fading light of day cast long shadows, like skeletal fingers reaching out to snuff out the remaining sparks of life. Levi's gaze lingered on Eren's face, etched with concern and a deep-seated resolve. He whispered softly, "I'm really sorry Eren. I wasn't able to protect you but I promise it won't happen again."

The wind picked up, whispers of the past echoing through the desolate landscape. Levi's eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched in determination. This broken world would not claim Eren. Not today. As the darkness deepened, Levi's figure became a silhouette, a steadfast guardian shielding Eren from the shadows.
