After dinner, everyone helped out cleaning up, the conversation still flowing smoothly amongst themselves. Mia couldn't help but look around from time to time at the group of people in the safe house and how they'd somehow transformed into some odd, makeshift family. It was strange, how these strangers-turned-friends had become her safety net, the kind of support she hadn't realized she was missing.
She chuckled quietly to herself as she dried off dishes, thinking about how ironic it was that it took the scariest and most chaotic route for her to find a family again. For her to finally belong.
Andrew nudged her shoulder, bringing her out of her thoughts. "What's so funny?"
"Just thinking about how we're all crammed in here like sardines," she lied with a smirk.
Andrew laughed, leaning closer to whisper. "Better than stewing in our separate corners, right?"
