Chapter 31 - Warm Dinner

It was only three times that I met her, but I had a different feeling each time.

She was beautiful but not coquettish, decent but not pedantic, sometimes shy, and sometimes very generous.

She was said to be well behaved, but now she was asked to wait, but she dared to fall asleep in this warm room. I don't know who gave her the courage.

Dong Yuzhong saw it but pretended not to see it. He immediately stepped out and closed the door gently before leaving.

The noise was not loud and did not wake Lin Wanyi up.

The emperor sat next to her involuntarily, just watching quietly without saying a word.

Lin Wanyi, who was originally sleeping soundly, seemed to have encountered some difficulties in her dream. She frowned for a while, and then smiled.

Until suddenly she shouted, "Mother."

Lin Wanyi was completely awakened from her sleep.

When she opened her eyes, she saw the huge face of Emperor Yuwenhong in front of her, which scared her so much that she stood up with a somersault.

As a result, her knee hit the corner of the table, and she was so painful that tears rolled out.

"Why are you panicking? I'm not a cannibal!"

Yuwen Hong saw that she looked so anxious, which was not at all like when she was asleep, and he felt a little angry.

But seeing that her face was red and she was biting her lips tightly and refused to cry out in pain, he felt sorry for her.

After saying that, he pulled her to sit down and skillfully lifted up Lin Wanyi's trousers.

Sure enough, the knee was bruised and purple, and there was some blood in the middle.

The corner is the hardest, not to mention that Lin Wanyi was too eager when she got up just now, so it was naturally quite sharp and painful.

When Lin Wanyi saw the redness, swelling and bruises on her knees, she was secretly annoyed.

She was really unlucky today. Not to mention that she had been a maid for the emperor for an hour or two, she had not eaten dinner yet, and only had a few cups of tea. She waited and waited for the emperor to come, but she fell asleep. When she woke up, she hurt her knee. It was really bad luck.

She grumbled, but she couldn't vent her dissatisfaction. She could only stare at the kneecap and cry silently.

Yuwen Hong took a closer look and found that there was no bone injury.

So he said lightly.

"I have a blood-activating and blood-stasis-removing medicine here. Apply it for two days and you will be well."

As he spoke, he walked to the cabinet against the wall of the bedroom and took out a two-layer box. There were many bottles and jars in it.

He took out a green jar from it with ease, picked up the white paste inside with a bamboo stick, and gently applied it on Lin Wanyi's knee.

The coolness that penetrated the broken skin and tissue spread throughout the body at once, and the burning feeling disappeared instantly.

After applying the ointment, he wrapped it with gauze.

"Don't touch water these days. Take this ointment back later."

"Thank you, Your Majesty."

Lin Wanyi was very shy, she didn't know if it was because she knocked her leg in front of the emperor or something else so she kept her head down.

When she spoke, Emperor Yuwen Hong heard a little crying.

"You cried?"

After saying that, he lifted Lin Wanyi's head. Sure enough, her eyes were slightly red and she was teary.

"I didn't say I would punish you, why are you crying?"

The emperor thought she was afraid that he would punish her for falling asleep early, but in fact, Lin Wanyi was in pain.

Because of her cold, she had been taking medicine for these years.

The cold gradually got better, but she had other problems.

It wasn't a big problem, but whenever she got hurt, it more painful than others, so the eldest lady was always very careful, and Chunqi and the others served her diligently.

Bruises like this may take two or three days for others to heal, but not necessarily for her. It may take ten days or half a month.

Otherwise, she would not have such a serious injury after just bumping into the table.

Lin Wanyi naturally would not tell the emperor these words, and could only follow his words.

"I didn't fall asleep on purpose, it was really..."

She was a little embarrassed, and the emperor saw it.

Thinking that it was already past the hour of Xu, he was indeed late, so he just said along the steps.

"Fourth uncle was happy today, so he ordered two more plays, which delayed me for some time. He was supposed to have dinner with me, but I thought you hadn't eaten yet, so I hurried back."

The emperor's explanation calmed Lin Wanyi down a lot.

The emperor, who was cold-hearted and decisive in the eyes of outsiders, would come back hungry because he was worried that she was still waiting. This really surprised Lin Wanyi. But on second thought, there were probably so many concubines in the harem, and the emperor, as the one who treated everyone equally, naturally knew how to coax people.

So who knows whether these words were true or false.

The little bit of emotion in her heart was extinguished before it sprouted.

"Dong Yuzhong."

"Your servant is here."

"Serve the meal."

"Yes."

Soon, the food was placed on the nanmu square table in front of Lin Wanyi and the emperor.

They were all made according to the emperor's taste, and were lighter. Lin Wanyi didn't eat much.

At first, he thought she was just being reserved, so the emperor only kept Dong Yuzhong to serve the dishes, and ordered the others to leave.

Unexpectedly, she still didn't eat much.

Yu Wenhong was puzzled. She hadn't eaten a single grain of rice since she came at noon. Wasn't she hungry?

"You have a small appetite?"

Lin Wanyi was drinking soup, and she almost spit it out when she heard the emperor's words.

But her good dining habits made her put down the spoon gracefully and asked back curiously.

"Why do you say that, Your Majesty?"

"I see you only ate a few mouthfuls of rice and drank a few sips of soup, and you didn't move your chopsticks. The dishes that Dong Yuzhong ordered are still piled up. Do you have a small appetite?"

After saying this, he continued to talk to her without waiting for Lin Wanyi to answer.

"Then that would mean you don't like these dishes."

Lin Wanyi didn't know why she always talked about the same topic with the emperor who ascended the throne at a young age and ruled the country as a teenager.

What do you like to eat?

What don't you like to eat?

It was as if she came to the palace just to have a meal with the emperor.

After thinking about it, she felt that something was wrong, so she spoke cautiously.

"I just drank tea, so I am a little full. I am hungry, but I can't eat much. The food made by the imperial kitchen is delicious, but I like spicy food, so I don't know how to eat these light dishes."

"You like spicy food? I remember that Prime Minister Lin is also from Shengjing."

The dishes in Shengjing City are basically fresh and light.

One reason is that peppers are not produced here, so people don't eat spicy food. Another reason is that Shengjing is cold and dry, and eating too much spicy food can easily cause internal heat. Therefore, people who were born and raised in Shengjing basically don't eat spicy food.

The reason why Lin Wanyi eats spicy food is entirely because of the habit she developed during the five years she spent at her grandfather's house and traveling with them in many places in the south.

Maybe it has something to do with her cold syndrome. Eating spicy food can make her body warm, so over time she fell in love with the taste.
