Revan stood in front of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant for the first time since leaving to go fight with his allies in the Mandalorian Wars. He looked at the building, having many memories here. As a padawan, he, and his Master Kreia used to come to the temple where they would explore the archives together, learning about the history, philosophy, and many more aspects of the force. She would share her views with him as he started asking her more questions on why certain things were the way they were. There was no emotion, there was peace he would say to himself as he walked up the stairs. His memories would flash to his years as a Jedi Knight, hanging out, or going on missions with his late friend Alek and Metera Surik. After they would return, the three would use their free time to stay in the temple together or would go to the city of the planet where they wanted to get away from the Jedi. The three were almost inseparable at the times of peace, but that was a long time ago. Alek, his closest friend since childhood, has been dead for about a year after Revan tried his best to redeem him, but he was far gone. He was ready to use a super weapon to destroy everything in the galaxy. It pained Revan to do the deed by killing his best friend, but there was no other way, but to put down his friend. After the battle of Rakata Prime, he tried getting in contact with Meetra, now being called the exile, among the whispers of the Jedi. He had heard rumors that she surrendered to the Jedi, but was stripped of her rank, lightsaber, and was cut off from the force. Revan would spend weeks after weeks trying to look for her, but she had already covered her tracks after getting to each location that he could think of. She was gone, disappeared from the galaxy. Now it was just him, the redeemed he was called. Former Sith, now back in Jedi robes. It didn't feel right to him, his friends dead or exiled, now he is the only one left. For Revan that was worse than spending an entire year cleaning up the mess he had made in the galaxy. If only he had all of his memories back, he could use it to fix the damage he had caused since he defeated Mandalore the Ultimate and turned to the darkside, however the council would not help him, fearing he could turn to the darkside again. Upon walking the stairs, Revan made his way through the halls. Passing many Jedi, some would stare at him with whispers breaking out. There were those that wished he had perished with Malak, blaming him for the state the galaxy was in. Others thought of him as a hero for ending the Jedi civil war. Revan ignored them as he put his hood up. He looked around the halls to see nothing had changed. When he stepped into the archives, he stopped as he saw a group of younglings approach him. This caused him to remove his hood. He looked at them, remembering the times that he would come in and instruct the younglings in basic lightsaber forms. One of them had gone as far as asking if he was who he was, causing Revan to nod his head. They surrounded him in a circle, proceeding to ask him many questions. He wasn't sure where to start. He didn't consider himself a hero, but he didn't consider himself a villain either. Before any questions could be answered the temple's historian walked in. She had white hair and blue eyes, "Alright younglings that's enough. Time to get back to what you were all doing" Revan could tell whose white robes it was anywhere, this was Atris. He could sense her presence from across the room. One of the younglings went up to her, telling her they wanted to stay, but Atris shook her head, sending them all out. She then stood up, glaring at Revan. Revan knew it couldn't be good as Atris was one of the Jedi that were against aiding the Republic in the war against Mandalore. He wasn't sure what to say, not expecting to see her so soon. It was time for Revan to confront his past.
"You are unbelievable, you know that?" Atris said in disdain. Revan thought she was referring to the younglings, "They came up to me, I had no intentions in speaking to them"
"I am not talking about that. I am referring to your presence. Last time you were here, you left with your followers to fight in the Mandalorian Wars"
Revan took a sigh, expecting something like this to happen, "With respect Atris, I was only doing what I thought was right"
Atris had scoffed at this, "That proves my point that you haven't changed. What about your supporters? Malak? Surik? What about all of them?" he could tell she was trying to get a reaction out of him. There was no emotion, there was only peace, he would say to himself before answering, "You are right it was a mistake, but I have changed. I'm a different person now"
"What about Bastila, I heard what happened. Has she changed?" she was pushing it, Revan looked at her with fear in his eyes, "That was different, I managed to save her"
"Because of your bond. I heard you two have been spending a lot of time together. You two even have your own place outside the temple don't you" Revan said nothing, but she continued, "Attachments are forbidden you know?"
"The Jedi Council aloud this after sensing our bond was too much to break. They told both of us we could stay as Jedi, for our service we have done" this was enough to make Atris laugh out loud, "Service? If anything they fear you two. You should be in prison if it was up to me"
Finally, Revan had enough, "I didn't come here to talk about the war or my personal life. I came to report to the council"
"I know, they sent me to get you. I am on the council after all" she told him. Revan said nothing as he followed Atris. The two would stay quiet as they have nothing to say to each other. Revan was calm about it, understanding why she was so upset at him, but he wasn't pleased about his attacks on Bastila. He could feel anger boil at the mention of her name, but Revan was able to stop himself from an outburst.
The two had entered the council chamber with this being the first time Revan has been in here since his argument with the council about the Mandalorian Wars. The same people that had erased his memories. He looked at each of the members, some of them were the same Jedi he had met while he started to reestablish his connection to the force, such as GrandMaster Vandar, Master Vrook, and Master Zhar Lestin, the Jedi Master, the twi'lek who had helped construct his lightsaber. Others he barely remembers, such as Zez-Kai, and Kavar, someone who he sensed that he had a connection with at one point, but Revan shrugs it off once Atris sat down at her seat, "Masters" he did a slight bow.
"Revan great news you bring us?" the GrandMaster had asked him.
Revan continued, "That is right Masters. I have come to inform you that I have returned from my mission. I have dealt with the last of the remnants of Malak's forces. Seems like there are no other sightings of the Sith Empire" the council stayed silent. No one said anything, so Revan broke the silence, "Does this not please you? Seems like we have dealt with the last of the remnants after a year"
Lestin spoke up, "No, we are pleased with your commitment to hunting them down, however we are all disturbed on how easy it was"
"Almost like they weren't even trying to hide" Vrook said. There was a discussion among the council, leaving Revan to stay silent. They were right, they weren't sure if the Empire he and Malak built were still a threat. Others such as Lestin and Kavar acknowledged that they had lost most of their power through the Starforge, but members like Atris were arguing that they are not sure if there are other secrets they don't know about. Vrook spoke up before the council, "Atris has a point, none of us are aware if Malak had a back up plan. The Sith always has their secrets" As debates continued to go on, Revan had decided to break it up, "There is away Masters"
They all looked at him, wondering what he was about to say, "I know we have discussed this before, but if you restore my memories, then we can find out if there is any secrets that we don't know about. It could really help us" he tried to plead without begging. He saw Atris give him a stare. He was waiting for other members to join in. Master Vandar spoke up, "That's impossible" he shook his head.
"Why not, if you are afraid of me turning to the darkside again, then just erase my memories again. Isn't it more important we make sure the Sith doesn't return?" Revan asked them. Not that he was worried about turning to the darkside again, but he had to get them on his side. Lestin cut in, "Its not that we think you will return to the darkside Revan, but to restore your memories its impossible"
"Why?" Revan asked, confused.
Vrook then told him, "Because it is very dangerous on the mind. It was easy for all of us to erase it, but restoring those lost memories could damage your mind permanently"
"I am willing to take a chance" Revan said.
Vandar shook his head, "No, you are our best assist. If the threat does emerge, then you will be called upon to help deal with it" Revan waited for the council to continue, he wanted to get out as soon as he could, thinking they would give him another assignment as they have been doing for the past year. Surprisingly they didn't, "It seems like there is nothing to discuss, you may go" Vrook told him.
Revan was confused, "You don't have another assignment for me?"
Vandar spoke, "We do not. Revan for the past year you have been working hard to repay the debt for the damage you had caused as a Sith. For that we return to you the title of Jedi Master"
Revan bowed before the council, "Thank you Masters"
"You may go. If something does come up, then we will contact you" Vandar told him. Revan without saying another word, leaving the members of the council alone.
"Thats right back to his woman" Atris said in disgust. The members looked at her with disgust aside from Vrook, who had agreed with her about Revan's attachment.
"Is that really necessary, Atris?" Kavar spoke up.
"His attachment is dangerous. What if something happens to her, then what? Is Revan going to turn back to the darkside and we will be back to where we started!? Atris was someone who was for breaking up the two's attachment, going as far as to erase their memories of each other, but the council refused.
"No, Revan will not turn to the darkside. I sense balance as we the rest of you do" Vadar spoke up. Lestin agreed with him, as well as Zez-Kai, "Master Vandar is right, but even if we did attempt that, their bond is just too strong. We have to have faith"
Revan could sense the council's arguments distances from where he is. He ignores them, taking the elevator down to the first floor, and he begins leaving the temple. Now that his missions are finished with his missions. He was ready to go back home to see Bastila for the first time since departing. The two had not even spent a week in their new apartment since they settled for it, as he was called away quickly to deal with the Empire. She wanted to go with him, but Revan declined, feeling it was better if he did this alone, feeling responsible for the damage that has taken place in the galaxy. Revan took a speeder, as he began to drive it towards his apartment. He thought about what he was going to say. He hadn't seen her in about a year. The two would only keep in touch through holoprojection. It hurt for Revan, not being with her, but he understood his responsibility to make up for past deeds as Darth Revan. Bastila understood that, which is why she wasn't too upset with him. She knew even at a distance, their bond could not break. As he was in the air, Revan thought about everything else, wondering if peace had really been achieved. He felt something sinister was nearing, but he ignored that feeling, as he had arrived towards his apartment. Revan stepped out onto the platform as he was greeted by his droid friend, T3-M4. The droid had volunteered to stay in his Masters place to keep Bastila company. He rolled around in excitement, as Revan chuckled, removing his cloak and putting it on the couch. He had bend down to greet his friend, "Its great to see you T3. Where is Bastila?" The droid had told him that she was away on a diplomatic mission, but will be back tonight.
"Oh" Revan said in a disappointing voice, he had hoped she would be home. He sighed, before standing up, "Come on T3, the day is still young. Let's go explore the planet" the droid buzzed with joy as he followed Revan.
The two went through the town of Coruscant, wandering around the area. Revan got changed, blending in with the crowd, giving his lightsaber to T3 to hold on to it. The town was packed with civilians, going to each stand as this was a marketplace. Celebrations were occuring with the war at an end. Holoprojectors were appearing all over the news. Bands were marching in the streets. Revan then looked up on one of the building's big screens and saw it was him and his allies he came across on his journey to recover the star map. They were all hailed at being heroes who had destroyed the Star Forge. Revan thought otherwise. He knew it didn't change that it was him who had founded the weapon. Revan however ignored it and kept moving. He looked behind him, feeling that something was behind him, but it was nothing. Revan kept walking forward, eventually stumbling in an alley where he saw someone sitting on the ground. He could tell by the uniform that the veteran was from the war. Looked like he hadn't slept or eaten in days. This caused Revan to drop a handful of credits in the bucket before walking away. This made him feel bad, knowing it was the war he started that caused people like that pain. Times he had wished he was put to death for his evil deeds, nothing he could do can make up for it. Revan decided to go to a cantina stand where he sat and had a drink. He looked into the bottle, feeling no emotion. All he could see was his own reflection in the liquid. Just hid long hair and a grown out beard. He thought and thought, but his attention span soon changed after hearing T3 make sounds. Revan looked down on him, not sure what was going on. The droid then ran into him, hitting his leg. Revan was confused, but he saw a red dot move around his chest. He quickly got on the ground knowing it was a sniper. A fire shot was made, causing the public to panic. Revan got up and saw someone from the distance was trying to shoot at him. He quickly ordered T3 to give him his lightsaber. Revan took it and ran after his attacker. He leaped from building to building, as his attacker was getting away. He couldn't tell who it was through the hood and cloak. He kept running as the attacker shot at him again, but this time Revan ignited his blue lightsaber, blocking the fire shots. Grenades were then being thrown, causing Revan to drop and roll after each explosion. He saw through the smoke, the attacker was still running. Revan used the force to speed up, causing him to catch up. The attacker kept running, hoping to get away, but he stopped after seeing a dead end. That is when Revan stopped in front of him, "Who are you?!" he demanded to know, but the attacker kept firing shots after shots. Revan continued dodging, he used the force to pull the blasters away. He then pointed the blade at the attacker's chest. Trying to look at him, the attacker's face was being protected by his own cloak. He put his hands in the air like he was ready to surrender, but ended up falling from the building. The Jedi Master ran down to see the person that attacked him stopped his fall with the blade hitting the wall of the building. He then jumped down, proceeding to run. Revan used the force to land, running after him. The only thing that stopped him was the crowd. Revan shut off his lightsaber trying to get through, but the crowd was filled with people, as each of the kept bumping into him. He looked ahead to see his attacker running. By the time he was able to get out of that crowd, he was gone, almost like he disappeared from the shadows. Revan went back to where T3 was. The droid beep, concerned what had happened, "Its nothing buddy, I am fine. Just need to report this to the council again" Revan sighed before getting into his speeder and taking off with T3 back to the Jedi Temple.
Revan had returned to the temple to report what had happened to the council. It was just Vandar, Lestin, and Vrook in their seats, where they explained the situation, "I believe it was a bounty hunter from the way they moved. What do you think of this Masters?" Revan asked, hoping for guidance. The Masters of the order looked at each other, then at Revan, "We don't know, perhaps a bounty hunter that was hired to kill you? You are the key factor that ended the war" Lestin pointed out.
"If so, then how did he know where Revan was? It was clear he was the target" Vrook said.
Lestin continued to talk, "It doesn't make any sense why would someone put a bounty on him now? Also this happened the same day he got back, which also doesn't add up"
The two Masters looked at Vandar, who didn't speak since the meeting. He turned to them, "Perhaps is as Master Lestin said, someone with a grudge. Revan's name was also revealed to the public after the defeat of Malak. It could be possible something from his past might be trying to catch up to him"
"He is right, you did hurt a lot of people before you were redeemed" Revan did not say another word. Vrook spoke again, "I think Revan should stay here"
Revan looked at him, causing him to swallow his throat. He did not want to stay. He just wanted to get home to see Bastila. He waited for the other Masters before speaking. Vandar turned to the Masters, then to Revan. He shook his head, "That is his choice. Revan, we cannot stop you. What do you want to do?"
In his mind, Revan wanted to leave. He was also concerned for Bastila, knowing if he was a target, she could be used to get to him, "I will be on my way. Tomorrow, I will investigate" Vrook was going to object, but Vandar cut him off, "Very well, go get rest. Be careful, remember, you are always welcomed here" Revan bowed his head before leaving. He found himself walking back the same way he did earlier. T3 was waiting for him outside the temple. He was on his way to meet his droid companion. He was anxious to get back, not seeing the woman he had loved in a year. He was also concerned if he had traced the bounty hunter back to her. Thinking about this, Revan rushed more as he wanted to walk out. However on his way out, Revan saw a familiar face by the entrance of the temple. It was Jolee Bindo, one of his companions during his journey to find the map. He went up to greet his friend. Jolee came and shook his hand, "Revan, I heard you returned from your journey. Tried finding you earlier, but the council said you had already left"
"Jolee it's good to see you again. I didn't realize you were here"
"I just got back from a retreat. What about you? I sense you have things going around your mind from a mile away"
Revan sighed before speaking to his friend, "Well not even a full day since I been back, but someone had been trying to kill me"
Jolee's eyes opened, "What do you mean?"
"I think someone was hired to target me. Not sure if its because I defeated Malak, or my past as Darth Revan is catching up"
"Who do you think it is?" Jolee asked.
"I have no idea, my memories are still blurry. His face was covered, so I couldn't identify him"
"Does Bastila know?" Jolee asked him, but Revan shook his head.
"No, I haven't seen her yet. I was on my way towards my apartment. You should come with me to investigate tomorrow"
"I can't, I leave in the morning" Jolee reluctantly declined the offer.
"Where are you going?" Revan asked.
"Just a planet outside the outer rim. They are still hurting from the war, so I am going to go over there for a while, help them rebuild, perhaps teach them a few things from my time in Kashyyyk. Sorry I can't be there to help you" Jolee said, giving him a sympathetic look.
Revan shook his head, "Don't worry about it, I understand. Helping people was always something you were good at"
Before he walks out, Jolee stops him from leaving, "Wait before you go I have something for you" he takes out a disk in his pocket, giving it to his friend, "I found those files you asked me search for during my travels"
Revan looked at it, then back at Jolee, "Are these what I think it is?"
"Look at it when you get home. I have to go, long day tomorrow" Jolee said, shaking hands with Revan again, "Thank you Jolee, good luck on your travels. May the force be with you" the two then departed ways before Revan made his way back to T3. The droid was beeping, asking if everything was okay, "I am fine T3, let's get out of here" the two got back on their transport, leaving the temple once again.
The two went to the apartment. Revan didn't even bother looking for Bastila. Instead he sat down on the couch, playing the disk he was given. They were all memories of his past. The first one he had stumbled upon was a picture of him and Kreia, his old Master. It made Revan wonder what had happened to her. He had remembered the last time they met, she disappeared. He had tried to reach her through the force, but there was no response, so he gave up. The next pictures he went through were all based on his journey as a Jedi. Pictures of him and the other students as well as the other Masters of the order. He found pictures when he became a knight. This one that had hit him the hardest was seeing a picture of him with his friends, Alek, and Meetra of when they first became knights of the Republic. He then scrolled through more memories finding them again, with it being the last picture they had taken before the Mandalorian Wars had began. Revan put his hands over his face in shame. His actions had cost him his friends. For once he agreed with Atris, it was his fault. He wanted to break down, but he stopped himself after sensing a familiar presence had entered the room, it was Bastila. He shut off the disk before he got up to meet her. By the time he had gotten up, she had already entered the room. The two's lips touched as they embraced in a tight hug.
"My love, you are here" Bastila said, looking into her lover's eyes. Revan gave her a smile before speaking, "Its good to see you"
"I heard about the attack from the council. Are you okay?" she asked with concern.
Revan brought his head down, "Honestly I don't know. My past has to be catching up to me. We knew this day would come" the two sat down as Bastila picked up a disk, "What is this?"
"This is a disk of memories. Jolee found it and gave it to me"
"Jolee is here?"
"Yeah, but he is leaving to go on another journey"
Revan looked down at his hands. Bastila saw this and put hers on his, "What's wrong?"
Revan sighed, "Nothing, just thinking about what Atris said before. She was right, all those things that happened in the galaxy and is still happening is my fault as Darth Revan"
"No, you made up for your mistakes already, don't listen to her my love. Whatever is happening we will face it together, I promise"
Revan looked at his hand, then at Bastila's eyes, "You are right, but if the bounty hunter knows who I am, then I want to set up security"
She smiled, "That is acceptable, but first there is something I must tell you" dropping her smile.
"Yes?" Revan asked confusedly.
"I hate your beard" she smiled as the two chuckled, wrapping each other in their arms. The two thought about how good it was to have the other back, dreaming about this moment for the past year. Despite the circumstances, Revan finally felt like he was at peace for now.
