Chapter 75 - 37. Fishing (part 1)

Character : Nathan Fiore, Fishing

-----

The birds chirping on top of the trees, and the sound of water falling from the waterfall.

The breezy wind, the flow of water, and the silence that kept the world at peace. With a long fisherman's pole in hand, the string that goes to the water, and the bait underneath the surface of the clear water.

Six red fishes were found underneath the flowing river, and yet none of them are biting the bait at all. Seeing such horrible luck, I pulled the fishing pole up and stared annoyingly at the bait.

Does fish just not like meat? What's going on?

"There you are!" From behind, a cheerful voice of a young lady was heard.

When I turned around, I spotted Lily walking through the bushes and arriving by the river. She looked like she was just finishing her morning routine, and she looked pretty.

"Good morning. It's quite chilly, so why are you wearing something so thin?" I asked her while staring back and forth between her face and her clothes. Right away, Lily wore a really disgusted face.

"Can you not look at my body every time you look at me?" She said with a demeaning gaze, and I became annoyed.

"Hey… I'm just asking. It's really cold."

It really is. The north is known for the cold air, and it's currently seven in the morning. The sun just came out, and snow is still all over the place. And yet, Lily is wearing a long sleeved thin shirt.

I'm wearing a thick jacket, probably because I've been out for hours already. Since the sun is already out, it's probably not wrong for Lily to wear a shirt, but it's still quite cold out.

"I didn't feel as cold, so you don't have to worry." She said before sitting on the ground on my right, and she turned her gaze at the empty bucket on the other side of me.

With her head being in front of me, I realized that my view has been replaced by her ear. She does smell good, but not as good as the nature around us. My peaceful morning has been ruined.

"You didn't even catch a single fish??" She asked while picking up the bucket, and I just stayed silent.

"I think… there's something wrong with the fishes." I said blaming the fishes, and Lily turned her gaze to the water.

"Well, what kind of bait were you using?" She asked, and I pulled the fishing pole so that she could see. And seeing the lump of lamb meat on it, she stared at the bait with genuine confusion.

"Do you even know what kind of fish you're getting?"

"Uh…"

"Do you know what they eat?"

"Well…"

Lily let out a really annoyed sigh, and she stood back up. She disappeared into the bushes for a while, and she came back with something I wasn't expecting.

She brought back… a cockroach.

"W-Wow!!" I yelled out of panic, and she realized that I was afraid of it.

She then moved her hand that was holding the cockroach closer to me, and I only moved away from it. Now that she has confirmed her thoughts, she turned her gaze back to the waters.

"Pussy."

"How are you even holding that thing!?" I asked with confusion, but Lily just pulled the fishing rope out of the water.

She stabbed the disgusting bug to the lure, and she threw it back into the water. She then sat back down at the spot she previously sat, and we just waited for a bit in silence.

"You were so afraid of bugs?"

"Can we not talk about this!?" I yelled a bit because she will definitely use this against me, and Lily formed a devious grin.

"Does she know?" Lily asked out of the blue, and I only looked confused.

"Who's she?"

"Nevermind." She quickly changed her mind, and I just drilled at her face with my gaze. "Stop looking at me and focus. You're going to miss the fish."

I turned my gaze back to the waters, and I just held the fishing pole tightly. Lily noticed that the way I'm holding the pole is wrong, and she pulled my hand so that I'm much closer to the pole.

"Move the fishing pole closer to you so that you can pull it when it bites." Lily said while moving my hand that is holding the fishing pole, and I just followed along silently.

"Like this?"

"Yes. A bit closer…" Lily realized what she just said, and she stopped her words from advancing through her tongue.

Hearing her say that, I turned my face towards her out of confusion, but what I found was that her face was closer than I thought. Our noses were only a centimeter away from each other, and I can't help but she accidentally made us like this.

But, it's not like I hate it. What's next, Lily?

"Nathan." Lily asked while still holding my hand on the pole.

"Yes?" I replied, and the smoke that came out of my mouth flew straight to her face.

"Did you realize the beast watching us?" Lily asked about it, and I was confused. My five senses then combined forming one unraveled sense, and I noticed the blazing stare coming towards me from behind.

I slowly turned my eyes to the source, and I found the purple haired woman staring at me from the bushes.

"I left you for one second, Lily." Felicia said while holding back her anger, and Lily only laughed next to me.

"Hey, come on! Stop ruining my moments. You've had yours the past few days!" Lily reasoned while moving away from me, and I realized right away what the two were talking about.

"What do you mean, 'I've had mine'? When have I ever had anything like what just happened to you just now?" Felicia walked through the bushes and arrived right behind me, and I noticed her stare burning more than ever.

This is not gonna go well.

"Well, you were sparring with him endlessly… I barely got the chance to talk to him!" Once again Lily gave her argument, and Felicia only snorted.

"That's his fault for running away." Felicia then turned her eyes back to me, and she moved the bucket away from my left. Then, she sat down right where the bucket was.

"You didn't even catch a fish…?" She muttered while studying the bucket next to her, and I just shook my head. "How long have you been out here?"

To answer her question, I pulled the snot inside my nose that nearly came out. "Uh… Five…?"

The two of them quickly looked surprised, because five in the morning is not a normal time to go out fishing. Not especially when you're in the north, and the temperature has literally gone minus.

"Are you crazy?? You just recovered from your wounds!" Lily shouted from realizing, and I let out my smoking sigh.

"I mean… I just really want to take a walk. I didn't start fishing until six." I reasoned, but Felicia's point still stands.

"So, you've been fishing for an hour… And no fish?" She pointed out, and Lily took out the bait that I was using.

"He was using lamb meat as bait."

I hurriedly got up and grabbed the lamb meat from Lily, and I placed it in my mouth. Seeing that act, the two ladies next to me just stared at me blankly while I smiled and chewed the cold raw meat.

This tasted better than I imagined.

"In any case, you just recovered. Don't push your body too much, or the wounds will open again." Felicia said coldly while staring at the waters, and I gulped down the raw meat before answering.

"I'm already healed, now. Besides, it's not like you guys can keep me away from the battles forever." I said to the two of them, and they only stared at me with annoyance.

It has been two weeks ever since the death of the holy knight battle, and my wounds have completely healed. That amount of time is still too quick for such heavy wounds to heal, but apparently it just happened. The nurses were very shocked to find that all the nasty wounds were now healed.

It does leave behind massive scars, but it's not like I can help that. I just hid the scar on my forehead with my hair. Hopefully it's enough to stop anyone from seeing it.

As for where we are, we are at a large fort deep inside the dark republic's territory. The war has advanced so deep into the dark republic, and we will soon reach the capital at this pace.

Of course, frequent pauses are needed, so we're staying here for a day before we go into battle again.
