Chapter 4 - Did you remember something?

Liu Xin's eyes fluttered open, her head feeling groggy and heavy. She blinked, trying to clear the fog from her mind, but the room remained dim and somewhat unfamiliar in her dazed state.

She tried to sit up but winced as a sharp pain shot through her head. Slowly, she became aware of her surroundings.

She was lying on a small wooden bed in her own home, covered with a thin quilt. The room was simply furnished, with a small table and a cabinet. The sun's rays filtered through a narrow window, casting soft shadows on the floor.

"You're awake," a familiar voice said gently. She turned her head to see Liang Weijun sitting beside her, his expression a mix of relief and restrained concern. His hand rested on hers, his touch warm and steady.

"Where am I?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"You're home," Liang Weijun replied softly. "You fainted in the market. I brought you back here."

Memories of the confrontation with Chen Yifan and the sudden, intense pain in her head flooded back. She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to piece everything together, but there was a nagging sense that she had forgotten something important.

"You need to rest," Liang Weijun said, his voice controlled yet caring. "You've been through a lot."

Liu Xin nodded weakly, opening her eyes again. "I'm sorry for causing trouble," she murmured.

Liang Weijun shook his head slightly. "Don't apologize." His tone shifted slightly, a hint of unease flickering in his eyes. "What were you thinking, going after Chen Yifan like that? You could have been hurt."

A shiver ran down her spine as she remembered the fear in Chen Yifan's eyes and the feeling of the knife in her hand. "I... I don't know. He was running towards us, and I reacted."

Liang Weijun's grip on her hand tightened slightly, "Don't ever do something like that again," he said firmly, his eyes narrowing in a warning gaze. "I understand wanting to defend yourself, but you need to be more careful. I was worried something could have happened to you."

Liu Xin nodded, the gravity of her actions at the market sinking in. The room fell silent, tension hanging in the air.

After a moment, Liang Weijun broke the quiet. "Did you... remember something?" he asked cautiously.

She nodded slowly but then shook her head. "I think I did, but it slipped away," she admitted.

"Don't force yourself. Let your memories come back naturally," Liang Weijun advised gently. Suddenly, a peculiar sound echoed through the small room. Understanding its source, she lowered her head slightly, biting her lip in embarrassment.

Observing her bashfulness, Liang Weijun chuckled lightly. "You must be hungry. I was planning to cook some of your favorite dishes today, but given what happened, let's opt for something light. "

Liu Xin hesitated for a moment before nodding, her lips forming a slight pout.

Understanding her unspoken concern, Liang Weijun gently tapped her forehead. "You just fainted and haven't had lunch. It's better to go easy for now. I've prepared some noodles and soup."

Liu Xin brushed his hand away. "Just go..."

 Liang Weijun left the room.

She glanced down at her hand, vividly recalling the sensation of tackling Chen Yifan to the ground. She had lied to Liang Weijun when she claimed ignorance of her actions; in truth, she knew exactly what she was doing. It was as if her body had taken over, guided by some primal instinct.

The rush of adrenaline, the familiar gaze of Chen Yifan, the ease with which she wielded the knife—it all felt strangely empowering. Yet, she kept these thoughts from Liang Weijun, feeling a mix of worry and confusion herself.

"Liu Xin..."

She looked up to find Liang Weijun back in the room, his expression tinged with concern.

"I've been calling you, but you seemed lost in thought. Are you alright?" He asked, sitting down on the bed. "Is your head hurting? Chen Yifan hit you pretty hard. I've already arranged a CT scan at a hospital in Minghua for tomorrow."

Liu Xin immediately shook her head. "No, I'm fine. My head doesn't hurt anymore; it was just a momentary thing. I was just thinking about something. I don't think a CT scan is necessary. Besides, won't it be expensive?"

Liang Weijun shrugged slightly. "I have some savings. It's better to be safe. Head injuries shouldn't be taken lightly."

Liu Xin hesitated before asking, "But... aren't you supposed to go back to Yucheng tomorrow?"
