Chapter 6 - Swim trip

A beautiful figure with pale white skin and onyx black glossy hair stood bare chested at the very edge of one of the floating islands. He glared at the unfathomable depths below, all of which were obscured by darkness as far as the eye could see. Then, he did the unthinkable.

Ren fell into the depths like a pitch black shooting star, the very air giving way for him to fall through. This was a man who had swam across the Stygian, falling from such heights did not perturb him in the least. Closing his eyes, the dark waters of the Cronosian river swallowed his figure. Darkness was his domain, thus by simply staying away from where the darkness was denser, he navigated the river with his eyes closed.

The Cronosian river was no ordinary body of water. It flowed from the realm of the gods where Zeus resided, down to the Last world in the labyrinth. Going closer to the source was like going back in time, as the worlds around those parts were primordial and primeval. Giant bugs and prehistoric plants populated such worlds, making it the most likely place for Ren to find a beehive. Luckily, the river followed a very straight path and flowed from north to south, so, by swimming against the currents, Ren would soon find himself in one the earlier worlds. But swimming against the currents was a perilous undertaking in itself. There were things residing in these depths that a human was not meant to see. Cronos had once sealed an Unfathomable within these depths, and merely seeing it could drive a man mad. Not to mention the Underworld's escapees from when he had slain Hades, and countless other abominations. Oh, and the river itself was far faster than the edge of a waterfall, such that none of the sorcerous flying ships travelling in the skies could travail its waters without being smashed to bits.

"When there is a will, there's a way."

Ren swam as nimbly as a fish, stopping and poking his head out every two hours to take a breath and survey his area. His body could stay without air for a while, but accidentally going too far back and ending up in the world's before the labyrinth was a very bad thing. For the first time since his vengeance streak, he wished he had Saph by his side. The blue haired woman could shape shift into any creature of her choice.

"Those Titans of the underworld would have been a welcomed help..."

After killing Hades, all the prisoners of the underworld became his personal army in exchange for their freedom. Most of them had sworn allegiance, but most were stubborn, choosing to stay in their cells and build gundams. Most primordial horrors there could easily walk across these waters like it was a puddle, but those big headed prideful giant gods calling themselves Titans claimed to be 'tired of mortal affairs' and chose to stay in the underworld.

"Stupid bastards..."

Well, if a man wanted something done, he would have to do it himself. Hey, at least he still had his apparition to keep him company. After going mad in the first few months of his freedom, Ren had discovered persona splitting to ease his mind of some of it's pressures. His body might be half a god's, but his mind was still mortal. That technique split his personality into sort of a Jekyll and Hyde like situation. speaking of which, the wraith was oddly quiet today...

"Focus on your swimming, wretch."

There he was. Right now, Ren was in his friendly motel manager mood, and the wraith was in the dark taciturn alchemist mood. Soon, and that soon meant a few dozen hours of constant swimming, Ren's glossy onyx hair broke the surface of the water. He found himself at the river bank of one of the primordial worlds. Ren shook his head and sighed.

"Now I kind of miss the tapestry."

Well, he didn't miss the constant spying and being used as a plaything, but he did miss the inbuilt navigational function and the creature inspection ability it provided.

Gigantic four armed gorillas and other leviathan sized mammalian creatures roamed the prehistoric forests as far as his eyes could see, making him shake his head with a dark expression.

"A few more worlds to go, then..."

His onyx black hair disappeared into the mystical waters once more, and he continued to swim against the tide. Dawn had broken when his head broke the surface of the river once again, this time arriving at the bank of a strange world with flourishing flora, and... sixteen foot large insects?

"Yeah, I think I'm on the right track..."

[Surya detests your existence]

[Persephone wants to have your soul]

[Ares likes your battle spirit]

...

Twilight Silver ignored the knots sent by the gods as her sword flashed like lightening, blood poured like rain, and heads rolled like boulders.

[A number of gods are vouching for your death]

"Fuck off, Tapestry!"

Her light grey eyes flashed with a hint of intense anger as she cut down yet another asura.

[Dionysus chokes on his wine]

'Fucking bitches...'

She was used to the Tapestry's knots every now and then, but today, the deities' comments just irked her far more than they usually did. Maybe it was because she had some very huge plans to execute and as such had to focus on her goals, making their constant knots sort of a distraction, or maybe it was because she still hadn't found a way to block out the tapestry in order to execute those plans. But either way, she was not in a good mood this early morning. Asuras masquerading as humans had been plaguing the islands further away from the Cronus river, and since she had nothing to do, she had decided to take care of them. It was actually a part of her grand scheme, as she was slowly - but surely - winning the trust and admiration of the people, a very powerful asset if she were to carry out her plans and make sure they succeeded.
