Chapter 32 - An Omelet for a Friend

Lowo N'air was feeling very strange; he spent part of the night dreaming about weird things and didn't even know how he had left. He couldn't remember if he had said goodbye to Doctor Carlie or not, but now that didn't matter. All he wanted to see was how the mysterious egg was doing. He thought he was going to fall over when he was startled by a light blue screen that activated right in front of him with large letters that said:

**"Good morning. Welcome to the Brain Recovery System. You can just call me Sirb, if you prefer."**

Lowo N'air decided to ignore it without replying. Was he going crazy to have that kind of vision? He remained still and silent until the screen vanished completely from in front of him. Walking on tiptoe, he went to one of the egg crates, opened it very slowly, with his hand feeling over the eggs until he found the spot where he had left that special egg (the one he had laid). The day was already breaking, and a few rays of sunlight that passed through the torn curtain at the window illuminated the cardboard box in such a way that he could clearly see the eggs, which should have been broken on the top trays. To his surprise, they were all whole and intact; he couldn't understand why. The day before, when he had made an omelet, he was sure he had left a tray of cracked eggs on the top, with some even broken, and now they were simply all intact. Then he thought:

"Could it be that, when I went to sleep, my friend Sorriso tidied things up here?"

He decided to ignore this fact and ended up grabbing, without choosing, one of the eggs within his reach to make the omelet. He lit the flame of the small stove, which had only two burners, and after mixing flour, salt, and some other seasonings, he fried it with the care of someone creating a work of art. After it was done, he placed it on a paper plate, and with an old fork and a deformed metal knife, he cut it into pieces. Just as he was about to take the first bite, the blue screen appeared again in front of his eyes, warning him:

**"Caution, extreme danger! Eggs detected with excessive energy. Your body is not physically capable of absorbing this energy in a healthy manner. You need to prepare your body so that it can absorb and process the intense amount of energy you intend to consume. This process requires a high level of physical conditioning and endurance. Would you like tips from Sirb?"**

Once again, Lowo N'air decided to ignore it, as if it wasn't his concern.

"I'm seeing that I'm really going crazy," he muttered to himself.

He closed his eyes for a moment and, upon opening them, the blue screen with warnings was no longer there. So, he went back to his meal. With the first bite, he noticed that the taste was different, but delicious, and it didn't seem like a simple omelet. He was already on his second bite and felt that it was even tastier. He thought that after finishing, he would make another omelet, but to his surprise, when he finished, he was so satisfied that he had the impression that he had eaten a lot of heavy food, not just an omelet.

With the sun becoming more present in the room, due to the holes in the curtain, Lowo N'air went back to lie down but couldn't sleep for more than 20 minutes. After his morning meal, he was so full of energy that he couldn't sit still anymore, and when he looked at the corner of the room, he saw a pair of improvised and very old dumbbells, as the metal bar was quite rusty, but not enough to put someone at risk. He knew it was an exercise equipment improvised by Sorriso, who, despite being skinny, practiced a little every day.

With so much energy, he decided to lift those homemade weights. At first, he picked one up that he believed had nothing inside but Styrofoam because it gave that impression, or maybe those dumbbells were simply hollow. Without much effort, Lowo N'air lifted them several times without feeling any fatigue, counting "one, two" with each lift of the dumbbells. It wasn't long before his friend Sorriso woke up, and he was surprised when he asked him what those pieces were made of and how much each one weighed. To his surprise, the dumbbells were made of cement and weighed 15 kg each.

Lowo N'air was excited because he had never been very strong, and suddenly he was lifting those dumbbells with such ease. Okay, it was only 30 kg, but still, for someone who had never exercised before, lifting them repeatedly as quickly as he did, there was no doubt it was something truly amazing.

"You never told me you were so strong!" his friend marveled.

"To tell you the truth, Sorriso, even I didn't know."

"And what did you do to acquire this strength out of nowhere?"

"Would you believe me if I told you that all I did was eat an omelet made from those reward eggs?"

"Oh, if that's the case, I'll eat one too," said Sorriso, getting excited.

"Leave it to me, I'll make it for you."

Feeling animated and full of energy, Lowo N'air grabbed one of the eggs and started making an omelet.

"Lowo N'air, why don't you make it with more eggs? After all, there are so many eggs in those crates that it's dangerous they'll spoil."

"Trust me, Sorriso, when you finish eating this omelet, you won't feel like eating anything else. And immediately, you'll feel a great sense of relief in your body."

Sorriso ate and, although he found it much tastier than a normal omelet, he didn't feel any reaction in his body, positive or negative.

"My friend Lowo N'air, what exactly did you do after eating the omelet?"

Trying to remember, Lowo N'air replied:

"Oh! Now I remember. I took a nap for about twenty minutes, then I couldn't sleep anymore. Why? Are you going to do the same thing?"

"And why not?" replied Sorriso, grinning widely. "Since I don't have any work today, I want to make the most of it."

"What do you mean, no work? And the freelance jobs you did for the merchants?"

"Well, my friend, those kids we fought with got into their parents' heads, and because of that, they refused my service. So now, like you, I'm unemployed. But that won't last long. At least we have plenty of vegetables, and with this oversized supply of eggs, we won't go hungry anytime soon."

So, after Sorriso finished his omelet, he decided to lie down, and Lowo N'air didn't bother him, letting him sleep for an hour.
