I hissed sitting up and my eyes blurred. A hand pushed me back down and I groaned. The blurry vision settled and I could make out the figure as Shavons. He had bags under his eyes and his face held a sign of relief. Since the first day I met him, I hadn't seen Shavon shaken. His face nearly never changes. So, with him saying nothing I knew something was wrong.
"What" I croaked. He grabbed a glass of water and helped me sit up. Once I was finished he set the glass down and sat on the bed sighing. "I didn't win" I mumbled looking at the wrappings on my arm.
"You did good, kid. Better than I've seen anyone since Azail". My head snapped up to Shavon. I smiled proudly but I could tell Shavon didn't like that. A knock at the door caused Shavon to stand up "I told him not to come until you woke up". "Get some rest" Shavon ordered. "Aye, captain" I nodded.
Shavon shook his head closing the door. I laid back down slowly remembering my fight.
We circled one another until Mikha'il rushed me. My sword clashed his and his weight forced me down. My knee hit the ground and my eyes moved to his knee. I kicked it moving away. He fell and turned around. I slashed his shoulder and he pushed me back. We both watched the blood from his new wound spill.
My eyes widened as he smiled. "Good" he grunted. Before I knew it he had made small cuts on my body. With each movement of my sword, my body burned. His smile grew wider and my anger fumed. I rushed him screaming and he slammed my body to the floor.
I coughed with the wind knocked out of me. I tried standing up but got kicked in the stomach. My body moved a few inches back and I crawled to my sword. I saw a shadow above me and felt a gripping arm holding my neck. I scratched at his arm trying to practice my breathing techniques but his grip tightened. The last thing I saw was Shavon's face before I fell unconscious.
I had lost. I hated it. The door opened and I looked at the entrance. Revien swallowed eyes showered me. "Revien" I called. He pulled out of his daze closing the door. "Why didn't you wait for me" he argued. "When" I frowned.
"You ran away after telling me you finished the test. If you had just waited. I could have gone with you. Told my father we should wait to make you take the next step" he chided.
I twitched from the pain. He grabbed my shoulders holding me up. "I didn't know and you know how Shavon is about punctually" I complained. "Fighting my father is stupid even if you managed to wound him once". My ears peeved and I grinned. "You heard about it"? Revien helped me back into the bed. "I may have"? He shrugged.
"You did," I said nudging his arm. His lips twisted into a small smile. "I was really worried. You know. You slept for two days " he whispered. "Two days" I gasped. Now I understood why Revien and Shavon were so worried.
"I will get better so I won't scare either one of you ever again" I whispered. Revien didn't say anything just looked over my cuts again. I could see the gears in his head turning and his lips twisting like he was in pain. I moved over groaning and tapped the spot on the bed next to me. "Come on" I smiled.
He hesitated and I grabbed his hand. He laid on top of the blanket sitting awkwardly. "So tell me what you did for the past two days"? He explained every detail. Then asked me questions about me and his father's fight. I don't know when I fell asleep but I remember Revien telling me about his first mission.
When I woke up the room was dark but I could feel a warm hand holding mine. Revien slept facing me gripping my hand like I would disappear. I smiled thinking if the fairytales I used to think were real life. The prince took Cinderella from her tragic life. Revien did that for me. He was my prince charming.
It had been a while since I had anyone I could trust. Shavon and Revien made me feel at home in this new place. I could trust them and I never wanted to make them worry again. So I needed to get stronger. Become the best assassin that anyone ever seen.
