I had spent two days lying and holding my mother. We didn't have any relatives and I truly didn't know where to go. However with my stomach growling and practically caving in on itself. I had to get some food. I kissed my mother head and went to the market.
Sometimes when mother and I would go. Stall owners would give me free food. In this case it was still the same. By the time I can back home it was dark. My street was usually quiet in a horror movie kinda way. The quiet before the storm. Yet as I grew closer I could hear voices.
Big blue and white aluminized the surrounding houses near mine.
My lips quivered watching two body bags go into an ambulance. What was I supposed to do now. My eyes move to the officers who looked at the blood where my father had laid. Would I go to jail for stabbing and killing my father. To frightened I ran away. Once I was out of breath I fell over. My sobs racked throughout my body.
I was alone. Totally alone and was already missing my mother. I could hear men talking and laughing. I moved behind a smelly trash can that rats scurried behind. "Hey, did you see someone go down there" a guy muttered. The other men laughed with drunken mischiefed.
The light showed their shadows coming my way. I stayed silent and still. I knew if I didn't do something soon I would be in trouble. I grabbed a plastic container and threw in the other direction. The men move towards the sound and with quick feet I ran. A skinny man caught sight of me.
"HEY,COME BACK HERE" the guy yelled. The men cackled like hyenas running like I was their prey a. What did I ever do to them? I was lost and no one was on the street to ask for help. I felt a pull on my shirt and my body hit the pavement. I coughed from the loss of air. My eyes prickled and I sat up. Four men surrounded me looking more gruesome than the next.
"What should we do with you" the guy smiled. "We should sell her. Eyes and kidneys sell good on the market" another guy stared. I bit my lip as my body shivered. "How about we take her for a spin" a tall man with a grimy face smirked. "Please" I begged. Another guy laughed gripping my chin. "Stop it sicko. We're not going to rape her neither are we going to sell her. She can help us. A kid can help us with our scam. Right kid" the younger guy grinned.
To stunned to speak I nodded my head. "Great, now get up kid" the guy ordered. I stood up shoulders scrunched in fear. "I'm Lou. And you are"? "Hayeon" I whispered.
1 Year Later
Lou took me in gave me a place to stay and food. But that didn't come without a price. I was there"little scammer" as his friend called me. I stole for them and roped people into getting in debt with them. Once a woman tried to help me and they killed her. I watch her scream until she took her last breath After that I left.
I scrounged around getting food and with materials I built myself a home. It wasn't much with garbage bags, old clothes and old pipes as my roof. A big moldy dog bed and a candle for light. Every night I dreamed of a life without my father where my mother and I lived happy. She read me bed time stories and I watch her smile.
But once I wake up to the hard truth that my dream would never be reality. I cry. The sun beamed in from the small whole in my make shift roof. I groaned feeling the blazing heat on my skin. My nose twitched from the smell I still hadn't got used to. My hair hid my dirty face which helped a deal with the eyes laid on me as I walked down the street.
At first I stopped for the many people who questioned. Was I lost? Or did I need help. But I stopped believing in the adults when a man told me he would help me. Instead he tried to get me to do things for him like touch him. I had learned from Lou and that man. I had to survive on my own and I was young. I could do it. I have been doing it.
I scratched my head looking at the market walkway in front of me. I stuck to the shadows as always. I got to the last stall that held fruits. The man eyes landed me on me just when I slipped two apples into my pockets. "Hey, you" he shrewd. I dashed as I heard the men yell. "Someone catch her" the man shouted. I looked behind me to see a bulky man behind me.
By the time I turned around I was in the street. I heard a loud horn and a car stopped just in time before hitting me. My legs gave out and my heart thumped loudly. I heard a door open and a little boy walked out. He stared at me with dark eyes and his body gave off a menacing stance. I scowled with distain tired of my bad luck.
"Do you need help"? The boy asked with an accent.
