Chapter 13 - The Battle Begins

The roar of engines and the screech of tires outside the warehouse filled the night air, signaling the arrival of their enemies. Léon and his team quickly took their positions, ready for a fight. There was no time for fear, only action.

"Elena, secure the data!" Léon barked as he positioned himself near the entrance. "Isabelle, cover the back exit. Sophia, stay with Peter and help him upload the files. We need to get this information out now!"

Elena's fingers flew over the keyboard as she initiated a secure upload to multiple online platforms. "I'm on it! Just buy me a few minutes!"

Isabelle, moving with practiced efficiency, checked her firearm and took a defensive position near the rear of the warehouse. "They won't get through me," she muttered, her eyes steely and focused.

Sophia and Peter huddled in a corner, connecting the final pieces of the story. Peter's face was a mask of concentration, but his hands trembled slightly as he realized the magnitude of their task.

The warehouse door burst open, and armed men flooded in. Léon fired a warning shot, forcing them to take cover. "We're surrounded," he shouted, "but we hold the advantage. They want us alive for questioning. Use that against them."

Gunfire erupted, the warehouse echoing with the sounds of the battle. Léon moved with lethal precision, each shot calculated to disable rather than kill. His objective was to buy time, not to escalate the violence unnecessarily.

Elena continued to work, beads of sweat forming on her forehead. "Upload at fifty percent. Almost there," she called out, her voice strained.

One of the attackers broke through the front line, heading straight for Peter. Léon intercepted him, engaging in close combat. They grappled, each trying to gain the upper hand. With a swift move, Léon disarmed the attacker and knocked him unconscious.

Isabelle, holding her ground at the back, picked off attackers trying to flank them. "Léon, we've got more coming from the west side," she yelled.

Léon quickly assessed their situation. They were outnumbered, but they had the element of surprise. He signaled to Sophia. "Get ready to move. Once the upload is complete, we make a break for the vehicles."

Sophia nodded, her eyes flicking to Peter. "Stay close to me," she instructed him.

The upload bar inched closer to completion. Elena's heart pounded in her chest as she watched the percentage climb. "Ninety percent," she announced.

Léon and Isabelle continued to hold the attackers at bay, their coordination flawless. Each movement was precise, every action deliberate. They were fighting not just for their lives, but for the truth.

Finally, Elena's laptop chimed. "Upload complete! It's out!" she cried, relief washing over her.

"Everyone, fall back to the vehicles!" Léon ordered. "We're getting out of here."

They moved swiftly, covering each other as they retreated. Peter clutched his equipment tightly, his face set with determination. The attackers, realizing their prey was slipping away, intensified their assault.

Isabelle and Léon provided cover fire as Sophia, Elena, and Peter made it to the vehicles. "Get in, now!" Léon shouted, firing off a few more rounds before diving into the driver's seat.

They sped away from the warehouse, the night swallowing them as they made their escape. Léon's grip on the steering wheel was tight, his knuckles white. "Did the upload go through?" he asked, his voice tense.

Elena nodded, her eyes scanning the rearview mirror for pursuers. "It's done. The information is out. Now it's up to the public and the authorities to act on it."

Peter, breathing heavily, looked at Sophia. "This is going to be big. The world will finally know the truth."

Léon nodded, his resolve hardening. "This is just the beginning. The families will retaliate, but we've taken the first step. We've shown them we won't be silenced."

As they drove through the night, each member of the team knew that their lives had irrevocably changed. The battle had begun, but they were ready to face whatever came next. Their fight for justice and the restoration of the Regum legacy would continue, no matter the cost.
