Kalix Noah's POV
The next four days were busier than ever. I can hear and see from the window of my office how the servants and butlers go back and forth.
My wife was also busy decorating the hall. Today is the winter ball, and later on, my parents, siblings, and their partners will arrive at this place.
I knew those nobles from the other side of the kingdom had arrived yesterday and stayed in the hotels.
I saw Enrique, who was talking with our men and instructing them on securing the port and the security of the routes.
I don't want my family and the guests to have problems on their way here. I remember our conversation last time.
He was stunned when I told him that Kassandra cared less about my unluckiness. I have the same reaction anyway.
"Look at them. They're really busy…" I murmur.
The flowers will be the last piece to decorate the hall. It's almost noon, and I'm sure my family will be here soon.
I fixed my table and cleaned up. I double-lock the windows of my office and my door. I have to make sure no one comes here.
Downstairs, my wife almost bumped me. She's carrying a huge box of daffodils and tulips.
"You should've let them do that. You have to rest because my family will be here soon. Pass that over and freshen up. You've been busy too much, Kassandra," I stated. I look at a butler, and he grabs the box of flowers in my wife's hand. Kassandra sighed.
"I almost forgot. I'm sorry, Your Majesty. I will get ready then," she says. She bows her head before leaving me.
I got curious about the situation of the wall. I decided to check it out myself. I opened the door, and my eyes dilated. The butlers and maids look at me.
They stop working and bow their heads. "Did you all do this?" I ask.
They all shake their heads. "We never, your majesty. We only follow Lady Kassandra's instructions. We also can't believe how she comes up with such an idea," the head butler says.
I blink, and I am mesmerized by the beauty of the entire hall. They're just finishing the decoration by placing the flowers in certain areas.
"I'll go ahead. Thank you to everyone for working hard, along with my wife. I'll surely give everyone bonuses for their salaries this month."
They all smiled and spoke with each other as I left the room. I saw Enrique. "Assign five officers to guard the door. Tell them to guard the hall, and no one will come here. Whether it is from the royal family or other nobles, it will be closed until seven in the evening. Am I clear?"
He bows his head. "Understood, your majesty," Enrique says.
I walked first, and he followed me. I stayed in the living room and waited for my wife to come downstairs.
A moment later, I saw her walking downstairs wearing a beautiful purple dress. I guess she finally understands the beauty of wearing dresses.
She's still from a powerful and noble family. She was only raised differently. I stood up and smiled. I can hear the ruckus outside.
"Let's go. I think they're already here, Kassandra," I utter. She breathes in.
She wraps her hand around my arms, and we walk out of the main door. There's a staircase that we should step on before we reach the ground.
Even at this distance, we saw the carriages entering the wide front yard of this palace. The first one that arrived in front of us was my parent's personal carriage.
It is where kings and queens used to stay when they traveled. Their personal servants open the door.
My wife and I bow our heads. "Greetings to the royal mother and father," we both say.
"Arise," Dad commands. We raise our heads and smile.
"It looks like you look better than before, son," mom commented.
I know she's teasing me. The other carriages align, and they all come out as soon as the door opens. My brothers bring their partners.
My younger sisters look around, trying to check for any flaws they might be able to see. "Greetings to the rest of the royal family," Kassandra greeted, doing a curtsy.
"Let's get inside. I know everyone hasn't taken their lunch yet. The servants already serve the dining table," I stated.
I checked it myself, and they said that my wife told them to cook dishes based on my family's references. My fifth brother held Leticia's hand and looked at me.
I know he's bragging about their relationship to me. I didn't care and waited for our parents to get inside first, and we all followed after.
The lunch was delicious, and my parents liked it. My wife was the busiest, as she chose to take care of everyone while we ate.
I think my brother's betrothal brides simply bullied her by asking Kassandra to pass things inconveniently.
"Mother, father, you all should rest first and prepare for the ball. My wife and I need to discuss the program," I remarked. My parents nodded.
"Everyone, let's all rest and prepare later on," Dad says.
The butlers were the ones who guided them to the second floor, where we had 20 rooms. It's enough for all of them. My wife and I will be staying on the third floor.
"Is there a problem, your majesty?" she asks.
We are inside the library. I lean my back on a bookshelf. "You shouldn't let them do as they please. I mean my brother's betrothal women. They're clearly testing your patience, and they're bullying you," I stated.
I still remember how they asked her to pass the pitcher of water, the plate of dishes, napkins, and even cutlery. Kassandra laughs softly. I groaned.
"I let them be and act like it's nothing. That's my way to piss them off. Did you notice it? They get madder when I do what they ask. That's what we called silent war, Your Majesty," she explains.
I look at her, and she seems serious about her words. I look down and remember what kind of faces they have. Well, she's telling the truth.
I remember it now. Their faces show how mad they are. She smiled. "You should rest either, Your Majesty. You must prepare for the ball because you're the host this year. You have to prove to your older brothers that you can also be a good leader like them," Kassandra says. She taps my shoulder and walks away first. I laugh and look at the door.
"What a strange wife I have," I whispered while smiling.
