Kalix Noah's POV
Kassandra's eyes glow in the shade of the orange sky. We arrive at the exact time when the sun sets in the west.
She's staring at the wide ocean, whose never-ending territory is where the sun hides to this day.
"Whoa! How beautiful…" she softly whispers. She steps forward.
Her hair flew because of the sea breeze, yet the smell of her shampoo entered my nostrils. She smells nice. Her blonde hair was the same as mine.
"You are now here, in our territory. You will be the grand duchess and ruler of the biggest port capital in the entire kingdom. We have ten big cities and 17 small towns and villages," I stated. She looked back when she heard my explanation. I walk forward.
"You mean the famous seafood and port capital of the kingdom? Wait, this place is where different countries arrive, especially when they're here for exports and other business or political matters," she says. I simply nodded.
"Yes. Everything you said was true about this port, but you must remember... This is also a place where enemies from Altas Kingdom arrive," I stated.
She was taken aback when she heard the name of the kingdom that killed her family. Moon Air's greatest enemy is the Altas kingdom.
"I know. They really give you such a dangerous place, or maybe..." she halts. She shook her head and smiled at me.
"My parents chose this place for me to rule because of a certain reason. You will know why soon. For now, let's go to my palace. I need to take a rest," I stated.
Kassandra smiled and nodded. We get back inside the carriage and head to my mansion. The servants bowed their heads and looked at my wife.
They even blink several times. I guess they didn't expect that the famous and scary General Escalante was a beautiful and stunning woman. She grins.
"Good evening, everyone," she greets. They bow their heads again. My wife looks confused. "You must be scary."
She points her finger at me after I say those words. I nodded.
"Me? Do I look like a monster? Enrique, tell me," she asks. Kassandra faced my confidant. He shook his head. "You are more than beautiful, your majesty," Enrique replied.
She crosses out her arms. "Just call me General Escalante or General only. I got goosebumps when you called me Your Majesty. It's Prince Kalix who should have that title."
I sighed. "Call her the way she needs to be called. You must remember that you're the grand duchess of this country, and a prince's wife can also be called a princess. I have to take a rest if you want to be with me, then sleep next to me," I whispered the last sentence in her ears.
Her cheeks turn red. She looks around, checking to see if they heard my statement. I walked away and left her, wondering.
She glares at me and scoffs when a smile is my only reply. As I walked away, my jaw clenched.
I wonder if I'll be happier if it was Leticia that I brought home and married. I have to act and try to face the truth. If my parents say that Kassandra will be a good wife, then I'll see it myself.
The night had passed, but nothing happened. She didn't sleep in my room or ask me about the things she wasn't familiar with.
I sighed. I was already in the dining hall, facing the warm food on the table, yet she was not here.
"Where's Kassandra? Didn't she forget that we should be eating breakfast now?" I inquired.
The maids look at each other. Both are scared to tell me the truth. Enrique steps up, as always.
"Your majesty, I just found out that Lady Kassandra and Arida sleep in a military hammock at the back of your palace. I just saw them when I had my morning walk," he says.
My forehead wrinkles. Military hammock?! Damn! I stood up and decided to check it out myself. I was a few steps from the back door when it opened.
Arida and my wife were holding a towel, wiping their sweat. They both bow their heads. "Greetings to His Majesty," they duet.
My brow furrows. Kassandra looks at Arida. She left right away. "Enrique, leave us for a while."
He steps back and leaves. "I heard what you did last night, Kassandra. Did you know how many rooms I have here?"
She shook her head. "I didn't know. You didn't tell me yet. Unless you will, then I'll be able to know it," she replied.
I clenched my jaw because of her idiotic reply. I wish I could punch her face. "Am I really talking to that legendary general of the Escalante army?" I utter it sarcastically.
She held her chin. "The last time I checked, I'm my—agh!"
I pinch her cheek because I know what kind of answer she will give me. "Stop joking because I am not playing around, Kassandra. Your jokes won't get through to me."
She grabs my wrist and takes my fingers off her cheeks. "Yes, sir. We sleep outside because this is not our home. We... feel a little bit worried about things, especially me, milord," she reasoned out.
I sighed. I pulled the other side of her cheek. "This is also your house, you idiot. You promised a lot of things in order to convince my parents, but here you are. You're acting like a stranger," I stated.
She sighed. "I know…" she whispers, leaning back against the wall. Kassandra seems to be worried about something.
"Your Majesty, can you be honest with me?" she says. I nodded and waited for whatever statement she would make. I noticed how serious her expression was.
"Don't act like this. Be yourself. Show me your true feelings. I don't need your fake politeness. Don't act like you truly care because I can see through them," she says.
I turned pale. She looked serious, and her eyes were looking at me with disappointment. "I've been through a lot, Your Majesty. I mastered reading people's eyes and getting through their facades. Yours has no exceptions. I knew when you truly smiled. You don't have to act like you usually do."
My jaw clenched. I showed her what I really felt. I look at her with coldness. She smiled instead.
"Better. If you hate me, then show it to me. Don't too much mask, your majesty. It will make you less of a human," she added.
'I don't get her. Kassandra is someone who can see through people's feelings. I have to be careful.'
"One last thing. You're in love with Lady Leticia, right?"
