Anna and Edrick moved calmly toward the lunch line, the noise of the cafeteria filling the air as the other kids chatted and laughed around them.
As they waited their turn, Anna noticed that Edrick seemed more relaxed, though still a bit nervous.
They grabbed their trays and served themselves from what was available that day.
With trays in hand, they walked over to the table where Paul and David were already waiting for them.
Both boys were deep in an animated conversation, but when they saw Anna arrive, they grinned widely.
"About time!" Paul exclaimed with a playful smile, shaking his head in mock disapproval. "We were just about to eat everything without you guys."
Anna let out a small laugh and coughed lightly, trying to get their attention before speaking.
"Guys, this is Edrick. Edrick, these are Paul and David." Anna gestured toward each of the boys, waiting for them to greet each other.
