"Don't worry about him, I'll shuttle him along to his next period. It'll be my extra special service~." Angel said as she escorted me out of the Nurse's office.
I looked back at the still snoring Lee, I felt my heart tighten seeing how peaceful he looked; I wished I never had to deal with any of this.
As I left and returned back to my first period in time, I gave Ms. Huntsman the note given to me by Ms. Angel; the bell had rung as soon as I had re-entered the class.
"Ah, Wynner, it's good to see that you're doing alright. Loser had--"
"Lozer, s-sorry, that's his last name," I corrected her without thinking, worried that I'd be ridiculed for doing so.
"Oh? Is that so? My apologies, I've been mispronouncing it wrong then," Ms. Huntsman said with a polite smile.
W-What? Was that it? No nasty look? No blunt scoff and sigh?
I kept myself in check careful to not let my look of surprise slip as I spoke to Ms. Huntsman.
If it was Lee attempting to correct a teacher, they would've ignored him altogether.
Is this the effect of not being a social outcast?
"Anyways, where is Lozer? He was the one to escort you there in the first place,"
"He's staying at the infirmary with the nurse, she said he'll make it to his next period," I reassured her.
"Hm, is that so?" Ms. Huntsman cocked her brow as she gave a small frown.
"Well, if that's the case, I'll drop it then," She noted as she then waved goodbye to the last batch of students leaving.
"You should head along now too, Wynner, and here is your syllabus for today," Ms. Huntsman said as she gave me a small packet.
With it in hand, I took my leave as I entered back into the hallway; the onrush of students flooding Lockhart at full force.
As I left, in the corner of my eye, I saw someone staring at me. It was the red-haired girl from earlier, the one who had tripped me as I walked to the back of the class.
Before I could scuttle away, I suddenly heard my name be called by her and the subsequent snickering of her posse of friends around her by the lockers.
I thought I was projected to make friends here!? What's the big idea!!
"Hey, new girl, come chat with us," She asked with a feigned innocence as she gave a twisted smile.
She had a bird-like face with how pointed her nose was, and her eyes were a sickly green; like an ominous sea fog. Her red curly hair bounced erratically as she laughed, it was tied up into twin tails, they trailed down past her shoulders.
I-I'll just pretend I didn't hear her, I just need to walk away...
"Hmm, are you deaf or something? Or is it true that you've been making out with the fatty while you two have been gone? Hahahaha"
As she dropped that terrible lie, she and her friends cackled as if it was the funniest thing they've ever heard. It made my face flush hot as I took on the brunt of this embarrassment, if only they knew the truth!
"Either we talk, or we tell everyone that really happened, your choice new girl," She gave her ultimatum as she tapped her foot impatiently.
Even in this surge of students, I could hear the rhythm of her tapping shoe crystal clear.
I had to face her or live with this terrible rumor if she were to spread it.
As I turned around to face her, I looked up at the profile available atop her head. Opening it, I was surprised by what I found.
"[Name: Charlotte Vermillion][Age: 18][Heart's Desire: To Become Everyone's Friend]
[True Love: LOCKED]"
Become everyone's friend!? She's doing the complete opposite!
"W-What, what do you want?" I managed to spit out as I stood before her and the group. It was a different kind of fear being infront of girls, they say more with their eyes than they do with their mouths.
"The name's Charlotte, Charlotte Vermillion. I don't know if you were aware, but my Papa is an important investor for Lockhart," She said with a prideful sneer.
I couldn't look her in the eye, I just wanted to run away and go to my next period. But with the current of students, I was now stuck in this alcove between lockers with her group.
"Why are you here?" Charlotte asked, catching me off guard.
"Why? Uhm, I--"
"I don't know you or your family, if anything, you're just some hick loser who's parent has somehow eked you into our school," She announced as she raised her chin up.
"B-But--"
"If anything, I believe it is my given right to properly introduce you to our school's goodwill..." Charlotte took a step forward, and I in turn, tried to take a step back.
But as I did, I felt the firm hands of her lackeys hang onto my shoulders as they kept me in place. Charlotte then suddenly raised her hand high up in the air, I braced myself as I closed my eyes shut and grit my teeth.
*Pat* *Pat*
"H-Huh?" I opened my eyes to find that instead of a slap, I was met by an endearing pat on the cheek as her face was inches away from mine.
"Congratulations, you're now going to be my friend," Charlotte whispered as she gave an ominous smile.
