Luo Weichen couldn't help but smile as he plopped down in the seat next to Xiao Fei. He dug around in his pocket and pulled out a lollipop, unwrapping it with a noisy crinkle of plastic.
"You know," he said, popping the candy into his mouth, "I'm starting to think the universe is trying to tell us something. First, we ended up in the same class, and now we're stuck together for a whole semester. It's like fate or something."
Xiao Fei didn't respond, but Weichen could've sworn he saw her eye twitch slightly. Now that they were in the same project group, they were stuck sitting next to each other in class too. Xiao Fei wasn't thrilled about it, but she kept her face blank.
Up at the front of the classroom, Professor Pang Bolin droned on and on about... well, something. Xiao Fei had lost track a while ago. She had her notebook open and occasionally scribbled something down to keep up appearances.
