Chapter 30 - chit-chat time

The next day, when the sun rose, Ron and Bette each held a cup of coffee, crossed the deck full of goods, and came to the only open space at the bow of the ship.

As the sun rose, the color of the sea water also changed, from dark blue to light blue, and then was dyed golden by the sunlight, like a magnificent painting.

The two were blowing the sea breeze and enjoying the beautiful sunrise at the same time.

Although the scenery was beautiful, Bette had black eyes and had no mind for the scenery. Moreover, he often went on voyages and had seen this kind of scenery many times, so he didn't care.

He invited Ron to watch the sunrise just to have a chat with Ron and get to know Ron by the way.

Of course, getting to know Ron was for the business they had talked about before.

Many people always think that in doing business, as long as the project is good and there is profit, it doesn't matter who the partner is.

But Bette doesn't think so. He thinks a trustworthy business partner is more important than anything else.

It was precisely because he became a good friend with a dwarf from the Hill Dwarf Kingdom and recognized him as a business partner that he bought a large ship of coffee beans without testing.

Many of these goods were also bought on credit from that dwarf friend. Because that dwarf friend also had a good opinion of Bette, the two shared the same interests and thus facilitated this business.

It's just that Bette didn't expect that nothing went wrong with the credit goods from his friend, but something happened here first. Now he has suffered but can't tell.

But even so, he didn't want to give up his principle.

To find a business partner, it must be someone who suits his mind.

"Knight Ron, I heard you are sixteen this year." Bette deliberately mentioned.

"Yes!"

"It's so good to be young! However." Bette pointed to his own black eyes:

"However, should you two take into account the feelings of an old man like me a little bit?"

"Last night, the two of you started from when it got dark and didn't stop until dawn this morning. You didn't stop all night, which made me unable to sleep all night."

Ron forced a bitter smile and touched his own black eyes:

"Thank you for saving me and inviting me to watch the sunrise early in the morning. Otherwise, for the dignity of a man and the honor of a knight, I might have died!"

"Ha ha..." Bette laughed loudly while patting Ron's shoulder: "I understand your pain. I went through the same thing back then. To be honest, I still envy you. Last night, I counted..."

At this point, Bette smiled awkwardly: "Please forgive my rudeness. I'm not a pervert. But your voices were so loud and without any restraint. I really couldn't sleep, so I eavesdropped for a while by leaning against the wall."

"Seventeen times. You started seventeen times in total. Are you crazy?"

When Ron heard this, his panda eyes widened immediately: "What do you call this if not being a pervert? Besides, is this called eavesdropping for a while?"

"Alright!" Bette laughed awkwardly again:

"It's true that I was eavesdropping by leaning against the wall from the beginning. Is that okay now! But is all this my fault? Shouldn't you reflect on it? I reminded you as soon as you got on the ship to be careful not to affect others."

"And, is seventeen times something a human can do?"

"My dear Knight Ron, if you are going to die, please die in your territory and not on my ship."

Hearing this, it was a matter of a man's dignity, and Ron's temper came up. Even though he was already pale-lipped and his legs were trembling, he still stubbornly said:

"My condition wasn't good yesterday. Otherwise, within thirty times would be completely manageable."

"Ha ha!" Bette laughed loudly: "You can say this to your wife. Bragging to me is meaningless because I'm also a man!"

"Of course, I like your never-give-up spirit. But don't force it too much. After all, you are still young and have a long life ahead! Also, since we are talking about your wife, that is, my niece, I also have something to say to you."

"Please speak."

Bette stopped smiling and said slowly: "Maybe you have heard of my niece's bad reputation, but I can tell you that among the noble circle, she is definitely a good girl."

Saying that, Bette pointed to a man who was leaning against the ship's railing and was drunk to the point of being completely wasted.

This man had messy long hair, scruffy beard, and his clothes were full of filth from his own vomiting when drunk. If it weren't for the knight's long sword on his waist, no one would doubt that he was just a down-and-out tramp.

"This is my guardian knight Ricks. Don't look at him like this. Now he looks in a terrible state. In fact, he has the strength of the Silver rank seventh stage and has married a wife with an excellent reputation."

"His wife is called Gloria. She won the 'Most Elegant Lady' award in Lane Town just two years ago. Her elegance and kindness have always been highly praised by people."

"But this elegant lady gave birth to a black child for her husband two months ago. You heard me right. A black child. We are white people like us, but she gave birth to a black child!"

Ron raised his eyebrows: "Wow! That's really a tragedy!"

"No!" Bette pursed his lips and said: "This isn't a tragedy. There's something even more tragic. According to the imperial law, once you get married, no matter whose child your wife gives birth to, you must raise it to adulthood."

Ron was already speechless and managed to squeeze out a few words: "That's really......extremely tragic!"

"No!" Bette suddenly opened his eyes wide: "This isn't over yet."

"Not over yet?" Ron also widened his eyes: "What else?"

"My guardian knight has a total of six such black children to raise." Bette said with a幸灾乐祸 expression:

"And the father of each child is different. The black child he discovered was just caught by accident because my guardian knight wanted to give his wife a surprise."

"The other five, he hasn't even seen them. As for whether there are more, who knows?"

"And now he doesn't even dare to confirm if his own children are his. Because when they grow up, they look more and more like his neighbors."

Ron smacked his lips and was completely speechless.

Suddenly, he realized something and grabbed Bette's collar: "What do you mean by telling me all this? Laughing at me?"

"Don't be like this!" Bette gently patted Ron's hand: "On the contrary, I just want to tell you that it doesn't matter how a woman appears on the surface. What matters is the inside. The beauty of the soul is the real beauty."

"And my niece is exactly such a woman."

Ron let go of Bette's collar: "Do I need you to tell me this? Also, that Gloria should be sent to the gallows to set an example for those promiscuous people!"

"I'm afraid not! You also know that due to consecutive years of war, the population always doesn't increase. And her action has made a great contribution to the empire." Bette spread out his hands, pouted his mouth and continued:

"Not only does she not have to go to the gallows, but the duke is also preparing to give her another Best Fertility Award to recognize her contribution."

Ron laughed: "Is this duke crazy? Is the population shortage so serious?"

"Things in politics, you don't understand, and I don't either." Bette laughed: "I guess the duke wants to increase the fertility rate by this method!"
