That day I slept tensed. I never knew what could happen next. What if another person or a mysterious creature comes. Then someone knocked the door to my room. I told them to enter as I moved to the farthest corner where there was a small hole to hide under the bed. Kacey entered. She was not in her pyjamas. I wondered why she was dressed like that at night.
"Why are you not in your pyjamas? Are you not sleeping today?" I asked.
"Oh, bro are you daydreaming it's already day. Do you take drugs nowadays?" she asked.
"I haven't slept yet. I have stayed awake the whole night. I was scared. I wanted to show you about it but there was no time. You go with the mage. He can't harm you. I shall sleep during the day," I said as I moved towards her.
"Stop it Arthur. I don't want those games. We shall be in trouble," she said bitterly.
"Now you realize it," I thought, " I suppose you've got someone out there."
She left. I followed her to the outside. The mage was already there. But I didn't want his stories for the time . I wanted to differentiate fantasy from reality. That's was the only way I could find out the truth behind me, and the universe. That was the only way to realize the truth in the magician's story. If I knew the real, I would find out if what Prakash said was wrong or right. The only way to realize the truth was by meditation as I was thought. I imagined of being a Kung Fu master like those whom I watched on my brother's laptop. Staying for hours without movement, one leg up in the airand and hands placed parallel to the ground as I breathe slowly.
The mage asked, "Are you going with us? You are still in your pyjamas.
""No, I have some important business to do today. Maybe another day, " I answered confidently, my arms crossed on the chest. They left for the stadium as I went back to my room. I started to meditate. I sat on my bed cross-legged, then put my right palm on the forehead. This way I knew my thoughts couldn't wander anymore. I began to imagine of myself as I began feeling the heartbeat.
I continue to write as Alpha comes in. He is a young slim kid who's muscles seem to be well built. His eyes are green and his blonde long hair has been plaited into dreadlocks. It's ten years since he was born.
His behavior hasn't changed. Sometimes his powers grow wild and he ionizes all the air around him. We usually run away from him as sparks start coming out of him. They are like lightening. If they pass through you, you will end up in hospital. He was banned from shaking hands with other children as they will get an electric shock. His body is always on high voltage.
"What are you doing?" he asks.
"I'm trying to write a brief history of ours. The past. I just wish to leave some trace of ours because we might be lost there. You don't have any maps or starship. How sure are you we aren't going to get lost? Tell me," furiously I say.
"Bro don't worry about it. What I want to tell you is that you stop wasting your ink writing the theory that you haven't proven yet. We shall go for a trip across the universe. Your ink shall be useful," he says as he picks up my notebook perusing it, "Oh this story of the wizard. What then for it. Trying to write history is willful insomnia. History writes itself. If it's useful it shall be incorporated into the library and our grandchildren gotta read it. That's it. It's too late now we have to sleep. All this hours from daylight, even you haven't taken supper. They think you are not at home. Go eat! "
I leave the room for the living room. We never had a dining room at our house. Uncle said he wouldn't waste funds to build a new house. The house will be built by his children. The living room has now changed. The telephone booth near the door was replaced by a home cell phone on a stool near the door. This is for the children to use to call their parents. There is a flat screen TV in the cupboard and a few things. The floor has been tiled and the wood furniture has been replaced with glassware. There are few windows which are large. The windows to the east give us a glance of the morning sun and the rising moon. They always shine to the flowers put on each side of the windows.
"Why did Alpha stop me from writing the book? Is there something he is hiding?" I think, "The good thing is that uncle has no access to my thoughts anymore. He can't know of my plans. Curiosity says, always never cease to pick up all opportunities. This is the only opportunity for me to travel in space. If I irritate him, he will cancel the trip. I have to be just good as always. I might learn many things and as I never forget, I will teach them to many coming generations. If I step on the moon, I will stand there like Neil Armstrong, take a selfie and go on. When I come back to earth I will post it. To prove I'm from the moon, I will take a few samples back to earth. I will even greet those who are setting up a nuclear station on the moon and tell them how stupid they are to increase the mass of the moon and reducing that of earth. "
Auntie and uncle are seated on a sofa watching a movie. They are highly focused as if they are watching news on the speech of the president who promises to increase all the salaries by twice. It's a love story. I wish they could be watching a football match. It would be entertaining. Not love stories that all always end up in marriage. Or maybe sci-fi movie could be better. But I am wrong because everyone likes romance including me. Maybe exclude you. I look at them and how they sit together. I imagine of one day having a girlfriend and sitting like that watching a movie, a romance one. Then asking her why shouldn't we be like them.
My thoughts are still wandering. I hear uncle addressing me, "How was the out? Did you enjoy so much that you forgot to come home before time?"
"Yes," I try not to be caught, "it was so nice. I even found a girlfriend. I'm not single anymore. I wish to see her again tomorrow at the science congress."
"Did you eat there?" auntie asks.
"Yes, but a little. You always know that I have to fill myself up here. That's what you said. Eat out there, but remember you are always part of the supper plan. No foods must be waste."
"That's good of you. If you do that always. Remembering you have something at home. Your wife is never gonna suspect you. You will be a man, son," auntie says as they both laugh.
I leave for the dining table. Some food is still on the table. I hurriedly take food and leave for our room.
Alpha is still sitting on a chair looking at the mirror. His hair color has changed. I wane to see if he was a human being or a demon. He is a human being. The image is the same. I retire to bed thinking of the next day.
"Will I manage to make it through? Oh those men ask a lot of hard questions. I have no idea what they will ask. Will they ask chemistry or physics? Why does Alpha answer the questions smoothly? He doesn't look at people. That must be the reason of his confidence. What if I'm asked to read the report of my group? Oh I'm screwed up. I mustn't disappoint the coach. Just like Kacey never disappointed the mage. Now she is in Australia. I have to do it. If I finish then I will start the journey for the moon. That's it, " silently, I say to myself as sleep picks me up to the dreamland.
