Alina quietly closed the door behind her, her heart pounding as she returned to where Marcus and the others were standing. The tension in the air was thick, the smell of blood and sweat lingering heavily.
Marcus stood at the front, his back to her, facing two huge men and smirking vampires who reeked of menace.
"Joe, what's going on? What is Marcus doing?" Alina whispered, her voice barely steady as she approached Joe, who looked grim.
Joe glanced at her, his expression dark. "I think Marcus wants to get himself killed. We might handle the vampires one-on-one, but those werewolves? They're not ordinary—they're laced with black magic. They're Knife's men." He hesitated, searching her eyes. "Your father sent them."
Alina's breath hitched. "So you're saying my father sent these beasts—the ones that killed Kenny—without a shred of sympathy?"
Joe nodded, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Yes, and they'll kill us too if Marcus acts irrationally."
