Chapter 2 - Arc 1, Chapter 1: A Conversation With A Nurse

Raijin slowly opened his eyes. He stared up at an unfamiliar ceiling. No, it wasn't unfamiliar. It was the school's nurse's office.

"Hey there, sleepyhead," a soft voice chirped from his side just as he had recognized where he was. He turned his head and saw a young woman sitting on a stool beside where he was laying with a warm smile aimed at him. She had long black hair and black eyes. She also had dark circles under her eyes. She was slim with medium sized boo-

Raijin shook his head to get those dirty thoughts out of his mind. When he did that, he instantly felt pain in his neck and let out a pained yelp.

"You shouldn't be moving your neck so much," Spoke the girl. She was still speaking softly. Raijin winced, his hand instinctively reaching up to gingerly massage his sore neck. "Sorry," he mumbled, feeling embarrassed by his own lapse in judgment. Raijin remembered that he was in a head lock before passing out.

"It's okay, just try to take it easy," she said, her voice gentle as she reached out to adjust the pillows behind Raijin's head, providing him with some much-needed support.

Raijin nodded gratefully, sinking back into the pillows with a sigh of relief. He shifted his gaze back to the nurse, studying her features more closely now that his mind wasn't clouded by inappropriate thoughts. Despite the dark circles under her eyes, she still exuded an aura of warmth and kindness.

"Thanks for patching me up," Raijin said, offering her a small smile in return.

The nurse returned his smile, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "It's all part of the job," she replied, her tone light and reassuring.

....

"So, uh, what exactly happened to me?"

Raijin asked the question he had been dying to ask. This wasn't his first time in a head lock, but unlike the previous times, this time he was taken to the nurse's office by someone. The nurse's smile softened, and she leaned in slightly, as if to convey a sense of confidentiality. "Well, from what I gathered, there was a bit of a scuffle in the hallway," she began, her voice low and measured. "You got caught up in it and took a pretty hard hit."

"I didn't get hit, someone put me in a headlock," replied Raijin. "Ah, that makes sense. When the boy with white hair brought you into my office, you were foaming at the mouth"

"That's scary to know!"

Raijin's heart dropped when he learned that he was foaming at the mouth. How did that even happen? Since when did he start foaming when he was put in a head lock?

The nurse let out a small laugh at his reaction. Raijin looked at the nurse and asked, "You know, I've never seen you before in the office. Are you like a new nurse?"

The nurse's laughter faded, replaced by a thoughtful expression as she considered Raijin's questions. "Yes, I'm actually new here," she admitted, her tone tinged with a hint of nervousness. "I just started a week ago, so you probably haven't seen me around much."

Raijin nodded in understanding, his curiosity piqued by the nurse's revelation. "And, um, if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?" he pressed gently, feeling a twinge of awkwardness at prying into her personal life.

The nurse hesitated for a moment, her black eyes meeting Raijin's blue eyes with a mix of uncertainty and amusement. "Well, let's just say I'm nineteen," she replied with a sheepish smile, as if she anticipated Raijin's surprise at her youthful age.

"Nineteen?" Raijin echoed, his eyebrows shooting up in disbelief. "Wow, you're younger than I expected."

The nurse chuckled softly, her cheeks tinted with a faint blush. "Yeah, I get that a lot," she admitted, her smile widening as she reached up to tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "But don't worry, I may be young, but I'm fully qualified to take care of you."

Raijin nods. He knew that as lame as this school was, they always checked their employees thoroughly, especially when it came to their nurses and cooks.

"Thanks for taking care of me."

The nurse's smile widened, her eyes crinkling at the corners with genuine warmth. "Anytime," she replied, her voice filled with sincerity. "That's what I'm here for."

After laying on the bed for a while, he finally sat up. He then got off the bed and stretched. His neck started to hurt again, so he quickly straightened up. He then looked at the nurse and said, "Thank you once again for taking care of me miss..."

"Yoru. Shirogane Yoru"

"Thank you, Shirogane-San. I'm Kurogane Raijin, if you didn't know"

Yoru's face instantly grows dark. "Ku..rogane?"

Raijin nods. He wonders what happened for her to become so serious all of a sudden, but before he can ask, Yoru tells him to get going before he's late for more classes. Raijin is a bit weirded out at he sudden attitude change but he just nods and leaves. All he knows is that his family name made her feel.....mad? Sad?

That's one thing Raijin didn't like. He was adopted by an early age. His current family is his adoptive one and his adoptive family's last names were Fujiwara. They didn't give him their family name. Why? Did they really not want him in their family? Are they just going to leave him? Are they just going to abandon him?

While he was thinking about all this, his feet carried him far from the nurse's office and into the hallway where he was attacked by Niko. There, he saw something that made his blood boil. Raijin had incredible patience. He would barely get mad. It would take a lot to piss him off. But, what he saw was unforgivable. Niko was pushing Ayuna to a locker. Raijin didn't like that. Not. One. Bit.

Raijin's jaw clenched as he watched Niko's bullying tactics unfold before him. Anger surged through his veins like wildfire, igniting a fierce determination within him to put an end to the torment once and for all. Without a second thought, Raijin stormed over to where Niko was cornering Ayuna, his fists clenched at his sides as he prepared to intervene. "Hey, Niko!" he called out, his voice ringing with a steely edge.

Niko stopped moving towards Ayuna. He turned to look at Raijin and-

*WHAM!!!*

The strongest punch Raijin could muster hit Niko in the face. Ayuna gasped and Niko let out, for the first time ever against Raijin, a pained shout. Raijin started shaking his hand in pain. Punching Niko felt like punching a concrete wall. He turned to Ayuna and said: "When I die, remember me as a hero who saved you. Okay? Please?" And with those words, he ran away.

"GET BACK HERE YOU PEASANT!!!"

"WHAT KIND OF A WEAK INSULT IS THAT?!"

As Niko shouted at Raijin, Raijin asked what kind of swear "peasant" was. For someone as strong as him, that was one weak insult.

Raijin kept running and praying that he would be able to outrun Niko, but, Niko was starting to catch up. Just then, the bathroom came into view. Niko jumped to grab Raijin, but Raijin ran inside the bathroom and ran into the middle stall and locked the door. He then crawled underneath the stall and went into the next one and locked that one too. There were 5 stalls in total. He was one stall away from the corner.

Raijin heard a noise. At first he thought Niko had ran inside the bathroom. But, no, it wasn't. It was a munching noise. He started to get weirded out. He then saw blood coming from the last stall. Huh. Blood?

....

BLOOD?!!

Raijin let out a shocked gasp and began to get scared. The munching noises got louder and louder. Raijin stepped on the toilet seat. He peeked into the next stall. He saw a dead student. There was a grey bipedal creature on top of the body. It was eating the dead student.

Raijin stopped breathing. The creature noticed him.

The Creature Screeched.

Raijin Screamed. The creature jumped at him.
