Ethan and Arianna walked into the cafeteria, trying to blend in with the crowd. But it was hard to ignore the feeling that they were being watched.
As they made their way to a table, Ethan noticed a figure sitting alone at a nearby table, sipping on a cup of coffee. It was Jake, Arianna's ex-boyfriend.
Ethan's instincts told him to stay away, but Arianna seemed drawn to Jake like a magnet. She walked over to his table, and he looked up at her with an expression that was both curious and guarded.
"Ethan, can I talk to you for a minute?" Arianna asked, her voice low.
Ethan nodded, feeling a sense of unease. He didn't trust Jake, but he also didn't want to leave Arianna alone with him.
"Let's go outside," Arianna said, her eyes darting around the cafeteria.
Ethan followed her out into the hallway, leaving Jake sitting alone at the table. As they walked away, Ethan could feel Jake's eyes on them, boring into their backs.
"What's going on?" Ethan asked Arianna as they reached the parking lot.
Arianna turned to him, her expression serious. "I think Jake is looking for me," she said. "I saw him talking to Dr. Elwes yesterday."
Ethan's grip on her arm tightened. "What did Dr. Elwes tell him?"
Arianna shook her head. "I don't know, but I have a bad feeling about this."
Suddenly, a car screeched to a halt in front of them. The window rolled down, and Jake leaned out.
"Hey, Arianna," he said, his voice dripping with malice. "I've been looking for you."
Arianna took a step back, her eyes flashing with fear. Ethan moved forward, positioning himself between her and Jake.
"What do you want?" he growled.
Jake smiled. "Just having a little chat with my ex-girlfriend," he said. "You're not exactly invited."
Ethan felt a surge of anger at Jake's words. He was just trying to intimidate them, but it wasn't going to work.
"Leave us alone," Ethan said firmly.
Jake laughed. "Oh, I'm just getting started," he said. "Dr. Elwes wants to see you too."
And with that, he drove off, leaving Ethan and Arianna standing in the parking lot, wondering what was going on and what Dr. Elwes wanted from them.
