Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Eerie silence

Kailin found herself riding swiftly through the woods in a desperate attempt to escape her sixteen years of seclusion .The sun had set completely and the trees appeared as illuminated shadow, Just moments ago, she had abandoned the only home she ever knew.

Now stranded with nowhere else to go, she could only ride faster.

The once strong winds came to a complete halt and was replaced with an eerie silence, as much as she tried to deny it, she was in fact scared, terrified even.

As Kailin slowed down her prized stallion, she reflected on her recent actions, overcome with guilt.

A little part of her regretted her rash decision to abruptly flee from home. Who could blame her though, trapped behind the castle walls her whole life without any contact from the outside world, it was pure torture.

The voice, yes, how could she forget the whisper that had been her only companion for weeks now. It was what pushed her to making the decision she made.

"Young miss". Kailin fell of her horse in fright.

"Who's there?"Silence greeted her; slowly a young, rather handsome lad approached her.

As he stepped into the moonlight, Kailin swore he could hear her erratic heartbeat; she had never seen anyone like him nor had felt this strange emotion.

Her face was completely flushed but thankfully it was too dark for him to notice.

"Don't go there; there are creatures in the dark". He said calmly."You look like a nice girl from a good family so what the heck are you doing out here this late".

As charmed as she was with this stranger, she still had a bit of common sense. Her father would notice her disappearance soon enough and send guards all over the kingdom.

She simply stared at him without providing any answer, she couldn't trust anyone.

As Nolan wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, his eyes quickly changed from red to brown. Flies hovered around the dead, half eaten corpse beside him.

He had been too careless while picking his prey, surely the Monarch wouldn't be upset. His hunger had been too insatiable this time, it was in his blood, the craving for humans.

The Monarch's temper was unpredictable as it was dangerous , very dangerous and he had learnt that, the hard way. Nolan quickly spotted the girl on the horse, the aura around her was strange and somewhat similar to that of the Favored.
