It was no wonder that Rise's ability was coveted for gate raids; his ability to single-handedly kill a lot of low-level beasts with just one flick of his fingers was incredibly amazing.
If not for his bad reputation, Rise's gate raid invitations would pile up like a mountain.
"Damn these wolves!" A shout rang, and the attention of the group was drawn behind them.
Despite the force field surrounding the wall, there would still be desperate wolves that had managed to reach the wall and attack their formation.
The rain of abilities poured down on these wolves as blood shed and whimpers resounded.
"Aahh!" A Guide shouted, startled by a huge wolf leaping on the wall, which was blocked by an Esper, kicking it out of the wall before it bit the head of the guide.
A few minutes later, it started to get chaotic, and the Espers could not take it lightly anymore. The Guides were also panicking, having seen this kind of gruesome scene.
"Just... darn it! Be quite!" A short-tempered Esper shouted, shooting fireballs at the wolves, being desperate to climb the wall.
"Here! Support..."
"Vice Leader! The wolves..." Dinara, one of the A-rank, was already breathless as she spoke. "There's so many of them!"
Yes, that was the problem! The wolves, in terms of rank, were at most C-rank beasts. Of course, some of them were B-rank and a few were A-rank, but that was hardly the issue.
The sheer number of wolves was enough to exhaust them! It was like these wolves were coming in droves endlessly, fuming as they salivated, wanting to get the taste of them.
And... Kamille's fight with the leader was only entering the intense part; he would not be able to return for a while, so they needed to hold on.
Hayes adjusted his glasses, his expression dark and serious. He was also starting to get worried. This also stemmed from the fact that his abilities were restricted, making him unable to contribute more to the group.
Biting his lips, he opened his mouth and shouted, "Hold on, guys! The Guild Leader... will end his fight soon!" Hayes could hardly say any encouragement at this point, but the thought of Kamille was enough.
He was their hope and the pillar of the group.
Sure enough, the members gritted their teeth and continued bombarding their skills, fighting the wolves that had managed to enter the encirclement.
Hayes then steeled himself and approached Rise, the only person who appeared easygoing despite the wolves continuously harassing the front lines.
His eyes were only shining, watching the intense fight with Kamille and the Wolf Pack's Leader. For him, there was not anything in this world that could compare to the experience of watching Kamille in his element.
The way the wind seemed to answer all his summons, the swung of his swords so beautifully cutting through the wolf's body. His other hand was manipulating the air as a shield, and the ice shards thrown by the leader lost their momentum once they had already hit him.
Graceful and powerful are only a few words to describe Kamille Han.
"Mr. Rise..."
Instantly, Rise's smile faltered slightly after hearing someone call at him. Irritation flickered in his eyes, but he still smiled when he turned and glanced at his side.
"Calling me respectfully suddenly?" Rise teased, not moving in his position. One wolf dashed in front of him but was easily flung to the ground without Rise doing anything but just standing on his ground.
Hayes flinched, and the annoyance that bubbled inside of him from what Rise said vanished in an instant. He could not help but think of himself as a replacement for that wolf if he really did piss off Rise.
Hayes breathed, ignoring Rise's words, and said his intention.
"The members... are getting exhausted." Hayes did not know how Rise would react, perhaps he did not care, but once the members crumbled, no one would be able to stop these wolves from coming.
They were just so numerous!
Hayes was still on point. Rise did not care. He was very selfish and self-centered, only caring for himself and for those he liked. Rise's force field could really stop most of the wolves, but not all, especially the stronger ones.
This was especially because most of his focus was around Kamille's; the force field around the wall was much weaker, giving the A-rank wolves the opportunity to bypass his barrier.
While it was not seen in his outward appearance, even Rise was having a hard time controlling his ability to multiple focus at a time. Fortunately, his mental wavelenghts were significantly formidable compared to the original him of five years ago.
He was stronger now, so he could handle this much. Yet, he was still an A-rank; his mana might not be able to keep up with this consumption. Ranks were there for a reason; his ability was powerful, but his capacity and limit were shorter than an S-rank.
It was not that Rise did not want to move to look cool, but just that he could not. His forcefield was centered on him, from him stretching to multiple points, but the intensity was higher around Kamille.
"Don't worry," Rise responded unexpectedly, not in a mocking tone but in assurance. His gaze returned to watching Kamille. The mana around the two was now reaching a new peak, indicating the result was not far off.
The wolf, though ferocious and huge, was not able to land a significant hit on Kamille, aside from some. It was strong, but Kamille is stronger.
"I promised him... I'll take care of his back." Rise then smiled, laughing in his eyes even.
Soon, the force field around him became stronger, and Rise was determined to use what he could! This was an important point; Kamille should not be distracted.
Kamille's back was not only talking about his defense but even more about these members. Rise might not care that much, but Kamille did. And so, until he was there, no one would be killed.
They could be injured, though... just not killed.
"The wolves..." Someone noticed, and Hayes also looked around.
His mind was thinking about the meaning of Rise's words, when the wolves' advance became slower until only those B-ranks and the A-ranks could enter the field.
They noticed this and knew that Rise had done something. With the burden decreasing, the members also entered the final struggle.
Soon, with a final howl, a huge body of a wolf grew limped and collapsed to the ground, startling the surrounding wolves. They halted and stared in shock; their tails could not help but get stuck between their legs, slowly taking steps back while whimpering.
And looking down at that huge body was Kamille. He then stepped towards it; his hand reached out and took his sword, which was stuck in the wolf's neck. Blood splattered, hitting his coat and creating patches of red on the black fabric.
Slowly, he turned around, his commanding presence slowly walking in the direction of the wall. The surrounding wolves almost prostrated, not having the guts to attack now.
As he walked forward, his gaze met Rise's.
Rise now stopped his force field, his hand laying weakly at his side. And yet his eyes were brighter, not showing any signs of fatigue at all.
"I told you..." he mouthed, laughing proudly.
Kamille paused for a moment and soon continued. He nodded and smiled slightly.
The feeling of someone having your back... Kamille thought it was nice—really nice.
