The pain was intense, almost like a searing knife was being passed through his skull.
"I-I would never do that!" Zane found himself stammering softly under his breath, unable to meet Joe's domineering eyes even as the expression on his own face was nothing but guilt.
"But you did! Clearly you did! The evidence is clear!" Joe responded in a much-heated manner, pointing at Maeve.
Panicking slightly, Zane again tried to forcefully recall the memories of the day before, only to feel a sharper, more head-splitting pain tear through his skull. "I—" Zane's voice broke, his mind struggling to align the accusation with his foggy recollections. "I don't remember any of this."
Joe's eyes were filled with fury. "How convenient, Zane. How very convenient that you can't remember ruining my daughter's life."
Zane blinked, his mouth dry. "I... I don't know what you're talking about, Joe."
