Hoshino makes an unfamiliar wand movement as the potionist deftly pulls out an archaic-looking dagger and points it at the boy. There is no visible effect, but the sight of the blade reduced to ashes says otherwise. A second later, the people see some beads spilling out of the boy's sleeve. Hoshino gives them a blank stare, but when he looks up at Snape, he smiles.
Apparently pleased with the effect. Only Lord Lucius Abrahamas Malfoy knew the purpose and value of this artifact dagger, and how could he not, when he himself secretly coveted one of the jewels of the Black Treasure.
This dagger detects powerful defensive artifacts, and if there are any, it destroys the most effective and strongest, though the dagger itself is also destroyed. Rumor has it that a batch of these artifacts was created by one of the Blacks six hundred years ago, but some of the daggers fell into the wrong hands.
What followed was a "childish" series of spells and curses on both sides. "Expelliarmus", "Confundus", "Stupefy", "Petrificus Totalus", "Conjunctivitis", "Tarantallegra" and others, used by the graduates of the local school until and unless something more serious is needed. This part of the ranged combat turned out to be rather boring, with the duelists mostly moving away from the beams, very rarely using the standard Protego.
This went on for a few more minutes, until the potionist increased the rate at which he sent out curses by a factor of three compared to the beginning of the duel, and sent out a Protego, and more than one. The crowd watched as Hoshino's shields collapsed. In the next second, the guy released a white-yellow bolt of lightning, which Snape tried to move away from, but the bolt didn't break off and followed him.
Where the silver translucent shield and the bright stream collide, heavy splashes of the glowing substance fall to the ground. This continues for a few seconds before the lightning disappears. With a blink, the shield disappeared as well. Snape's face turned into a frowning mask of concentration. Hoshino, on the other hand, had not changed his face the entire time and had managed to regain his shields during the attack.
Severus Snape raised his wand, his lips moving, but he was forced to interrupt his magic and leap a few steps away. A wave of hot flames struck where he was, even causing Snape's hair to begin to smolder. In that time, the Japanese managed to shorten the distance by a few steps. Actually, it was much more than a few steps, but the guy was moving in an arc, and at that moment, he sent several clumps of fire at the wizard, who caught them on his personal shields and cast another spell.
Greedy reddish flames spread across the red, magically saturated shield. The potionist's wand, meanwhile, writes intricate patterns in the air. The Japanese sends out a powerful stream of water, which the shields absorb again, this time a deep blue. For a few seconds, the water stream continued, spilling puddles and mud all around until it broke.
The Japanese man froze for a second, then began to raise his hand with his wand as he paused, watching the potionist. Thick clouds of a dirty yellow color gathered around him, as if illuminated from within.
Everyone froze, silently watching the clouds grow in brightness and density. A circular gesture with his staff above his head, a diagonal cut to his left hip, and a sharp whip-like swing toward the enemy. The yellow clouds rose in a single high wave and slammed into the Japanese with unexpected speed.
As the wave descended, it widened more and more, greatly reducing the chance of escape by jumping. The Japanese man makes a few swings and a few wisps of the wave are torn off by the gusts of wind, immediately dispersing them, but it has no noticeable effect.
