As James drove his mind was running with so many thoughts. 'Who was the person Fred talked to and why did he seem so scared, is Sylvia alright? What is going on?' The thoughts consume him as he pulls up into the driveway of Sylvia's house. On the outside everything seems fine there weren't even shouting coming from the house. Yet despite that James found himself faced with a sense of dread coming from it. James shook his head and started to approach the door. As he got closer, he could hear some voice coming off half sounding calm while the other half was frantic. He opened the door.
"Well- ah look! he's here! You see, I told you he'd come!" Amber said frantically as James opened the door. Upon opening it he was greeted with three large, tall hooded figures standing in front of Amber, Sylvia and Wilfred who were all in various states of distress. Amber looked somehow even worse than when they were held captive by the vampire. Her hair was disheveled, and she had bags under her eye's and was breathing heavily.
Wilfred looked defeated and was crouched down as if to make himself look far smaller than he actually was. His shoulder's hunch in brace as he avoids looking at the hooded figures for more than a few seconds. Unlike Amber who was talking almost continuously, Wilfred looked like he had hardly said a word.
Sylvia looked the worst out of all of them as she was actively crying in fear. As James and her eyes met, she tried to say something but only got choked up and cried harder. She was trembling and seated in between Amber and Wilfred on the couch completely seated.
"Ah it seems the human has arrived." a voice to the right said. James looks to see three 11 ft tall figures standing there stiller than statues. The voices have a soft reverb, their faces fully covered in mysterious and Eldrich masks, their robes and dark blue clothing with tapestries on them depicting what seem like apocalyptic events on them. It was then that James noticed three long black tendrils coming from beneath one of them. James eyes follow the tendril to find the vampire from yesterday being completely restrained by them effortlessly. "Now that you're here we can begin the examination." one of them said monotony. Jame couldn't even tell which one of them spoke. He walked to the chair next to the couch placing himself next to Wilfred.
"An explanation is in order though." one of the hooded figures said before all three of them turned their heads to James. "We are the inquisitors here to make sure humanity and the underwhelm relationship remain in check." The hooded figure said before turning to the three on the couch. "It has come to our attention that rampant vampiric activities have been running rampant in the town and we have come to examine it." one the hooded figure lifted what could loosely be called a hand and gesture to Amber."witch? If you may give your account."
"My accou-Oh right yes your lordship!" Amber said as she nervously straightened her jacket covering her bandage body. "You see the trouble started only a few weeks ago when the, uhm, gentleman you have in your grasp began killing a bunch of brown-haired women." Amber pointed to the vampire still held in the inquisitor grasps. "Which you know witch's usually only have brown hair like myself so we figure he hear that a witch was in town and decided to get some power, who know what, to become all powerful or some shit i don't know the point is that this whole debacle is his fault and we're not responsible for any of the death here and–" Amber stop as soon as the inquisitor raise it hand again.
"You said that the vampire in question is the sole malicious party?" the inquisitor said calmly.
"Yes, that is true yes." Amber said, nodding her head furiously.
"Then what about the two male humans killed in the alleyway?" the inquisitor responded pointedly
Amber suddenly froze color, seemingly to actually leave her face as she struggled to explain Sylvia murder of the two thugs that night. After a while Ambe spoke again.
"Those were - uh those were accidents." Amber said quietly. At that one of the inquisitors leaned it head toward them ever so slightly and spoke one simple word.
"How?"
There was a piercing silence that followed was deafening. Amber's eyes were looking down on the ground and had gone quiet.
"If that is all from you." the inquisitor turned to James who went still. "Let's hear the human's account." James felt a chill go down his back and involuntarily gulped. "Tell us at what point did you find out about our existence?" the inquisitor asked, looking directly at him.
"Well, I know Sylvia for a while, but it was only until recently that I found out she was you know vampire and-" James started but stopped when the inquisitor was suddenly much closer to his face
"Where exactly did you two first meet?" it asks in the same monotone voice it has been using.
James trembled slightly "we met during night class and we kind of hit it off." he looked at the still crying Sylvia who could only look with pure fear and the inquisitor interrogated James. As James was talking, he felt as if a cold feeling was climbing up his back. It quickly became suffocating as he spoke, and he feared that it would never end or even ease up until the inquisitor spoke again.
"Alright enough." the inquisitor said finally easing up away from James going back to its original position. "The time for recounting is over and now comes judgment."
Several things happened at once, first, the vampire in the inquisitor's hold began to struggle more though it made no difference, Amber paled greatly and went tense. Wilfred sunk lower into the couch and Sylvia suddenly quieted down, eyes going wide with terror while James felt that cold chill return as if it was a gripe.
"For the fledgling: death is in order for endangering our world with his feckless ways." as soon as the inquisitor said that it effortlessly ripped the vampire into pieces and took them under its cloak when James heard loud Sicking crunches from there. The whole room was silent for what felt like an eternity before the inquisitor spoke again. "As for the rest of you, normally a simpler punishment would be in order however today we will only require a small fine of 3000 tun." the inquisitor jerks it head toward Amber room. "Go."
James could hear Sylvia sob in relief as Amber burst into a sprint tripping along the way as made her way upstairs and came back in record time." here you go my lord" Amber said as she brought a round bag that the inquisitor took with no hesitation. After that the inquisitors burst into flame and disappeared leaving them alone.
Amber after a few minutes jumps and clasps her hands. "That went way better than I thought it would." James and everyone else look at her with shock. "Oh, come on none of us are dead! That is a major plus in my book." Amber said with a shaky grin.
"Amber" Wilfred said for the first time today. "We almost died."
"Ah almost!" Amber said, pointing at Wilfred's hands still shaking. "It could have been way worst plus we have all our limbs!" Unlike Amber, Wilfred and the others couldn't pretend that things were perfectly fine at that moment.
"So, what happens now.?" James asks.
"Now." Amber said, grabbing his and Sylvia arms. "We kept this on the low and not tell anyone shit alright?" amber stated that last on with a smile.
"Okay." James and Sylvia said at the same time.
A little later as James was leaving Sylvia stopped him.
"Wait James, can we talk?" Sylvia said, reaching out to him.
"Uh sure?" James responded nervously not knowing what Sylvia wanted. She hesitated a bit before speaking again.
"I understand that all that happened this week was confusing and scary, and I put your life at risk so many times and, and I-" Sylvia looked choked up as she said her next line. "I understand that this might have been too much, and you don't want to be put in this situation again or be around here or me."
James really didn't know what to say to that. While yes, this whole week was in fact absolutely terrifying and he didn't really ask to be involved in it, hell he basically forced into it but if he didn't intervene and help them would syl even be here? Wouldn't it just end like all his other relationships. But if he ended things now, wouldn't he be safe and easier life and he could just forget about this, about her?
After a moment James made his answer.
