Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

At first, Theodore felt nothing. The raging noise of explosions and screams quieted, and the pain of emotions stilled. His tense jaw and fists slowly went limp.

The peace of mind was tempting. He wished to forget everything and disappear.

'I'm sorry,' suddenly, the words popped into his mind. Why was he sorry? Slowly, he was beginning to forget.

Something kept tugging, making him just slightly uncomfortable. The more he tried to remember, the more pain resurfaced. However, he just couldn't let go of the feeling of uncertainty. A clash began within his mind. Within the darkness were flashes of memories and a bright golden light.

Theodore pushed forward, grasping at whatever, until finally, a solid image formed. Before him was a small girl with light brunette hair, chocolate hazel eyes, and a sparkling tan. She smiled widely and grasped Theodore's rough hands with her small palms. Then, she disappeared as quickly as she came.

'Sophia?' Theodore's body tensed up.

Evan attacked the Void, quickly separating it from Theodore. He twisted his body, using the leg thrusters as acceleration, and sent the Void falling far away with a strong kick.

Fortunately, Theodore's body landed on a building, minimizing any fall damage. However, he grabbed the attention of nearby Voids. Some turned toward Theodore with a creepy smile and rushed in.

Evan rushed forward as fast as he could. 'Please let me make it!'

Around a dozen Voids were now mere feet away from Theodore's body.

Suddenly, Theodore's eyes opened.

FSSSHHH

A strong blast of stream alarmed Evan. He shielded himself but was inevitably pushed back. As he regained his balance, he witnessed something incredible. Theodore stood up.

The first abnormal thing Evan saw was a singular passive wing on Theodore's right side—also, an ominous black halo formed above his head. The large hole in his chest began to repair itself at an astonishing speed, fast enough for the human eye to witness. The healing skin had hints of grey color mixed in, but it matched Theodore's already pale skin.

"RAHHHHH"

The sounds of multiple Voids screaming in agony echoed. Some lay on the floor motionless, with parts of their body obliterated.

However, the lucky ones who survived quickly banded together to face their new threat.

Theodore's dull black eyes turned pure white.

Suddenly, he disappeared from his place and appeared behind a Void.

"ARG"

The Void screamed briefly as Theodore stuck his hand inside and ripped out its heart.

The massacre continued as he swiftly ended each Void. Despite the bodies surrounding him, he appeared at peace and angelic.

As he tore the head off the last Void, he turned toward Evan. Sensing hostility, Evan took a step back in surprise.

However, Theodore's body began to convulse. Blood poured from his orifices. He collapsed on the floor.

Slowly, his wings began to retract, and the dark light dissipated. Evan stood still, hesitant to go forward.

"Sophia," he heard Theodore weakly murmur. Evan snapped out of his fear and rushed forward. He grabbed Theodore.

"Are you alright?" Evan gently asked. Theodore was weakly awake, covered in sweat.

WE-OO

Large sirens echoed through the cavern.

Evan whipped his head over frozen in fear. "Are they leaving? Now?" He burnt most of his fuel fighting off the Void and rushing to save Theodore. However, he had to try to reach them.

"Let's go Theo," he dragged him over his shoulder. They walked forward slowly, inching closer. However, they were quickly stopped in their tracks by a horde of Voids. Evan sighed in frustration mixed with fear.

"Move out of my way," he raised his shaky voice. However, the Voids inched forward. Time seemed to slow down for Evan, he felt his body begin to burn up.

Suddenly, Evan lifted his chipped steel sword. "You have to get through me first bastards," through the gaps of messy hair, his bright green olive eyes shook with vigor.

BANG BANG BANG

A large amount of gunshots rang out. In front of him, the Voids had multiple bullet holes throughout their bodies. Before, Evan could turn around and see where the shots came from, a massive object connected with the back of his head.

"Ugh," he moaned before immediately collapsing and losing consciousness.

SLOSH

Theodore woke up startled, the dimly lit room forced his eyes slightly to open slowly.

'Water?'

He felt water drip down his face, but when he went to wipe it off, his arms were tied behind him on the chair.

"Awake?" A low-pitched voice appeared in front of him. The man briefly blocked the light, allowing Theodore to see him. He was mature, probably in his late 30s, but had an impressive build. What caught his attention was the man's white head of hair and long scar down one of his eyes.

"Where am I?" Theodore weakly murmured to himself, the memories were still foggy.

'The last thing I remember...'

Suddenly, he gasped and looked down at his chest. He had no clothes on except for a simple pair of boxers. However, he stared at his chest. Nothing amiss with his body. Before he could question how he was alive, a strong hit connected with his chest, right where he was pierced. Theodore felt the wind leave his lungs.

"Amazing, right? You had a hole right there, but it's all good now," the man smirked slightly. He grabbed a chair and pulled it up.

"Where's Evan," Theodore seethed.

"The other boy? He's fine for now," the man tilted his head.

"Alright, no more questions from you, it's my turn." The man pulled a pocket knife attached to his leg.

"What are you?" His expression turned dead serious instantly.

BAM BOOM BAM

A variety of sounds filled the small, dark, and dirty room. The man viciously beat Theodore, without hesitation. Theodore lay on the floor, still tied to his chair, wheezing and gasping for breath.

"So are you ready to stop wasting our time." The man pushed his hair back, fixing it.

Theodore continued to stay silent except for coughing. He stared back at the man fiercely.

"I'm going to kill you," he glared hatefully.

"And how are you going to do that?"

BAM

"Huh?"

BAM

"How?"

He continued brutally. A frown formed on his face. He grabbed Theodore by his hair, lifting him. "Your owner left you like the dog you are, don't you want revenge?"

Theodore chuckled, "so what's that got to do with you?" The man smiled at his provokation.

"Listen kid I'll tell you something none of you underground rats know. How did you think the Voids found where the city was?" Theodore's eyes widen slightly.

"It was me," the man pointed to himself childishly.
