Chapter Three
Jack's POV
Meeting My Bride
"Sorry sir, but we can't revive her." I stare at the doctor, every word floating in front of me.
"How is that possible? She was fine just a minute ago!" Heads turn locating the voice of this audacious person. I turn my neck towards my friend, he does not seem to be in a good mood, I stretch my neck trying to see her inside but the doctor blocks the vision of every curious person with his huge size.
"We're sorry sir,but we've lost her and we can't do anything about it. We are sorry for your loss." Veins bulge out of his neck in anger and his eye twitches, the temperature of the hospital drops and I stand up to cool him down.
"Michael." I cross my hands over his shoulders.
"Get off!" I feel a powerful unexpected punch on my cheek. I rub the pain away with my palms and I let him be. If we were at home, this would have been the best way to relieve him.
"I'm sorry." He passes his hands through his hair and he looks through the hospital. He adjusts his collar and I wonder why, I lift my eyes and I am not surprised.
Everyone is staring at us,the nurses, the doctors, the patients.
"Yeah." And we both start leaving.
"Please, please, I beg of you, Regina can't die,Doc. Please do whatever you can to save her." I hear a faint sob that places a thorn in my heart.
"Why'd you stop?" Michael raises an eyebrow at me. I ignore him and I trace the voice to where it comes from. Her figure looks so familiar.
I squint my eyes and I increase my pace. Michael chuckles behind me but I totally ignore him.
"Hey." I rub my neck shyly, I have always addressed as the most eligible bacheor but when it came to approaching the opposite gender, I am the ultimate worst at it.
"Good day." She sniffs in the snot that seems to flowing freely and she wipes her tears. She tucks her hair behind her ear and something in my wants to do it to the other side of her ear.
"Sorry to interrupt your chirp, Miss Luciana but Miss Regina does not have chatty time on her side." Her eyes rotate everywhere and I see them glistening. She blinks so many times I lose count.
"Then why are you not doing anything?!" Michael interrupts us again. My best friend has just lost a loved one so I understand his reaction.
"Sir,if the bills are not paid, we can't proceed with any operation at all."
"How much is it? The bill?" I can feel the loss of few minutes flash past me again and I decide to help, after all, she is my bride to be and something pricks me everytime she cries.
"A million dollars."
"What?! I paid you three thousand euros today, how is it at that amount?" Her nose shrinks and expands.
"The bell loans were here. That is how much the loan has accrued and if you can't provide all of it as we speak, then I am sorry, but you will have to consider her a lost loved one."
"It's fine. I'll take care of it." I bring out my card and the doctor as well as my future wife seem to be in a maze.
"Hello." I swipe my card in front of the both of them trying to grab their attention that was obviously trapped somewhere.
"Is this another loan?" The doctor raises his eyebrow, she stares at me and when I look into her eyes, I can see pain, I can feel betrayal. Her eyes fleet between me, my card and the doctor.
"Sir." She sounds so weak, so frail, something in me snaps. For what, I can not exactly explain.
"Can you just accept your payment?" Now, I was starting to get pissed. Quickly one of the nurses rush to me and complete the payment including that of the debt.
"What do you want?" I lift my eyes up from my shoes.
"Sorry?"
"I said what do you want?" Her arms are folded against her breast and I can't help but smirk.
"It's not funny. If you want a contract marriage, then I have to let you know I am already married right now." I smile accepting the fact that she had taken me for who I was.
"And do you know him if I may ask?" I raise my eyebrow waiting for her response.
"Mr CEO,I am married." She stretches out the married in a way that almost has me and Michael rolling out on bellies.
"Yeah, your sister, doesn't she have anyone at all? And you too?"
"No and she is my best friend, although we are as close as sisters. She's an orphan and I am the first child of my parents, they both hate me and they don't fend for me." Her voice fluctuates and I can tell she is trying to hold it in.
"Let it out. It will help you feel so much better. I promise." She stares at me and I see the dam in her eyes.
"Let it go." And she allows it, the tears flow from her eyes and somehow I find myself moving. I can try to stop myself, to sta where I am,but tonight my legs have a mind of theirs.
I get to her and I do what I have always wanted to, from the beginning. I twist her hair and I put it behind her ears. Her hair is so soft, so silky.
"You're beautiful. Don't let anyone make you feel less okay?" I say those words, my eyes straight to her eyes and I make sure they sink. She nods her head shyly just like my innocent bunny.
"Do you want to, I don't know, probably walk around for a few minutes, take some fresh air and go home?"
