Avery stared up at the deity before her, struggling to comprehend why she stood in his presence. All she could see was light—a blinding, all-encompassing light that would have hurt any human's eyes, yet she found herself unable to look away.
"Greetings, Child," the deity spoke, his voice resonating deeply within her soul.
Wait, my soul? Where's my body? she wondered.
"It is natural for you to be confused, my child," his voice flowed with warmth, somehow calming Avery's mind. He continued, "You stand before the Creator of all, He who is your Lord and Master."
"Um, hello, S-Sir. I'm not sure what to call you, but why am I here?" Avery stammered, finding her voice.
"My child, you may call me whatever you wish. As for why you are here..." The deity's hand, a presence she could feel more than see, gently brought her closer, where she imagined his face might be. "Your time on Earth has ended, and you have lived so well that I wish to grant you three wishes."
Avery blinked in confusion. "So, no final place to rest like Heaven? Did I get that memo wrong?"
A chuckle reverberated through the air, like a melodious vibration. "There is such a place, but I offer this opportunity to a chosen few."
"I see," Avery said slowly, contemplating. "So, I can wish for anything?"
"Anything within my power, my child," he replied, his voice now imbued with seriousness.
"Alright, I've decided. May I make my choices now?" Avery's voice held a note of excitement.
"Let us begin, my child," the deity replied, a smile in his tone.
With that, Avery's new life began.
