"You would also find it cute too if you should see her attempts at getting me off that school, Uncle Damon."
Hale smiled, remembering all about his little adventures with the one they sent to learn everything about her and report back to them.
"She loves to read and not really a social person. And she kind of hates me a lot too."
Damon turned to look at Hale as they walked down the hallway, a tray of food in his hands. "What did you do to upset?"
Hale shrugged. "She is not into flashy demons."
"Hmm, she has good taste then."
Hale faked he was deeply hurt by what he said. His lips pushed together into a pout causing Damon to smile at his childish behavior.
"Why do I have to be a teacher there? There are other ways I could get close to her, like being a student there."
"You being a teacher there is less hazardous than being a student Hale. I put you there so you would have no other choice but to be well-behaved while doing your job."
Hale scoffed.
"It's only a matter of time, and you won't have to do that anymore."
His eyes went to the tray in Damon's hands. "Is that for Rayven? Since when did he start taking delight in human food?"
"It's not for Rayven but for a greater evil. Come with me."
"Oh." Hale's gray eyes widened as they moved to an unfamiliar hallway looking more isolated and empty. They stopped at a room door and Hale waited with his arms folded on his chest as Damon knocked on the door several times in annoyance. The door opened to reveal a human with blonde hair and red eyes. Hale detangled his arms as his lips fell apart in surprise. He turned to Damon for answers.
"I thought Ebony was selected to be his next heartbeat?" Hale whispered close to Damon ears.
"No. Shut up and stay away from her." Damon replied.
Veronica eyed the two demons, and it looked like she has just woken up from a long dream.
"Can I help any of you?"
Damon, who couldn't bare a moment of her anymore, pushed the tray of food to Hale and said, "He brought breakfast." And began to walk away leaving Hale speechless and confused. His eyes slowly went to the human who somehow found her way to be living under Rayven's roof without being his heartbeat or any close relative or friend. Even if he has no friends apart from them.
Veronica let go of the door handles to stand more confident before the flashy demon. "Are you one of their many workers or a personal maid to him?"
Hale has never felt insulted before in his demonic years. But as usual, he chose to be polite.
"No, miss. I'm family. Not by blood, but they have been good friends of my dad."
"Oh, so you are one of the demonic freaks. Half human with demon blood running through your veins. I don't believe in the idea that demons could be redeemed back to angels and be like the angels. You are all the same to me. Condemned idiots."
Hale swallowed not knowing how to respond to her greetings. When he finally found his tongue he continued, "I'm Hale. Nice to meet you. And you are?"
Veronica rolled her eyes as a sign that she was getting bored. She collected the tray from him, stepped back inside and slam the door right in his face. Hale was greatly taken aback by her awful behavior.
Inside, Veronica left the tray by a corner in her big room.
"Angels, demons, redeemed demons, heartbeats, demonic little offsprings…all nonsense!" She said, boiling in anger. "If not for the sacrifices I have to make for my dreams, I wouldn't dare involve myself with such abominations."
She sat on her bed in disgust. Glaring at every piece of furniture in the room.
Suddenly, her phone began to ring and was glad it was her mom calling. She picked the call and answered with a loud groan. "Mom, it is hell in here."
"I am so sorry you have to go through all this buttercup. We won't have to endure all this once we get what we want."
"I can't wait. Do you get my text?"
"Yes, and it brought me great joy. I will be sending a package to you on the spells and things you have to do. Moreover, there is a handwritten note by me on how you should go about it. This time, I did my research very well and consulted numerous spirits and magic breeders. We won't make the same mistake we made on Constantine on Rayven this time."
"I am glad that's comforting."
"Just to be on the safest side, I also packed a little weapon of defense in the box along with the spells. You should make use of it when everything else has failed you, and you are met with great opposition."
Veronica rose to her feet. "What is that?"
"An ancient weapon more like an artifact. It can be very lethal and useful if used correctly and at the right moment. I had to appear as holy just to get my hands on it for your protection. It's coning along with the box and there is a note on its purpose and some instructions on its usage. Everything should be delivered to you anytime from next week so you can get to work."
She moved over to her large vanity table and sat on its red stool with a smile.
"You are the only one in this world I could rely on Mother. I sincerely appreciate your help."
"The pleasure is mine. After all, your ambitions have always been mine. Together, we could do great things."
"We will, Mother. I have great faith in us."
She placed her phone on the table and put the call on speaker.
"Has Constantine reached out to you?"
Veronica sighed, picking up her hairbrush and began to detangle her hair. "I woke up this morning with close to thirty love messages from him claiming that he misses me so much."
"Our spell on him is messing with his head. Not to worry, once you could get Rayven a first rank demon, you will have the whole world at your feet. And the power we've been hungry for would be ours."
"Oh, I can't wait to begin."
