Chapter 15 - Mob Tied Up

[Third person POV]

[Location: Gotham City, New Jersey]

[Date / Time: Thursday , July 26th 1988, 1:00 AM]

In middle of the night a dark form could be seen driving through the streets of Gotham city. Bruce or rather Robin drove through the streets faster than any car. Normally a child of his age couldn't drive on a beast of bike like his newly made Robin-cycle.

He approached the docs of Gotham City was covered in large crates. The kind you get from cargo ships and large tankers. Bruce grappled up to the top of the highest one he could find. A large ship was coming into the harbor with more crates. Waiting for it was a group of about thirty men. Each was in some dark color combination of a trench coat and hat. Some were also equipped with Tommy guns.

Soon he got a new quest one that had made him grin wildly. After getting it he used the invisible head phone to talk to Alfred.

"Penny 1 are you at the designated location?" Bruce had changed his voice to be in his deeper register. It sounded a bit like a more dusky whisper than a deep growl.

"Yes sir." Alfred voice came through clear over the com which was directed connected to Bruce's.

"Good I'm going in. Make sure to keep your communicator in." Bruce checked his utility belt making sure he brought everything. Then took his grappling hook back out preparing to get closer.

"Of course sir and good luck." Alfred who was positioned near by with the all black corvette. If anything went wrong he was close enough to pick Bruce up. He also had a mobile phone that Bruce had customized. First it could contact the police and the voice would sound like a voice changer. It could also locate a tracker placed in Bruce's suit.

"I don't need luck Alfred."

Sneaking around was the easy part. All Bruce had to do was get close enough for him to find out exactly what they were bringing into the city. Jumping from crate to crate until he got within ear shot of them was also easier than expected. He hid above a pair of more talkative goons each with a gun. He crouched and leaned over the metal crate and listened in on them.

"Man are we sure the boss is right on this?" The first goon wore an all black tench and hat.

" I don't know man. It's not really our place to ask questions now is it?" The second goon in a dark brown version of the same outfit. Bruce threw a small batarang behind the duo.

"What was that?" The goon in black clothes said turning around. The goon in brown turned as well. The two of them then looked at each other.

"Go check it out I'll stay here." He said and started to walking over. The brown goon nodded and watched him walk away.

Meanwhile Bruce quietly made his way down behind the goon in brown. He waited until the black goon turned around a corner. Then fast as lightning he hopped up and bashed the man's skull with a retractable staff.

KRACK!!

The blow was strong enough to knock the man out with a single hit. He could have slit the man's throat with a batarang. It would have been easier and quieter but he didn't.

Bruce had been thinking on rather or not to kill villains in this life. Sure he had killed Joe Chill but that was revenge plain and simple. Still Batman was the one superhero known for never killing more than any other. However to the outside viewer it's clear that his methods are ineffective for making lasting change in Gotham City.

Still each life is connected to countless innocent individuals. Wives, children, siblings, parents, and friends all will be affected by the loss of one person no matter how terrible they are. Even Falcone had children, a wife, and  a brother. So he came to a compromise if he could afford not to kill he wouldn't.

Killing is the last option if he can win without killing he will. However as of right now he was nowhere near the skill and strength level of the original Batman. So he would have to compromise on Batman's morals in exchange for victory.

As soon as the goon in black heard the noise he turned around and rushed over. To his surprise when he rushed back over his partner was gone.

"Mike? Mikey! Where did you go." He lifted his gun and walked looking back and forth. Still he didn't see anything. As he got closer to where Mike was before he called out again.

"This ain't funny Mike! Alright man come out!" He creeped closer to a darker area.

"Mmmmph!" He heard a noise coming from a dark corner that lead to a dead end.

" Mike? Is that you? This isn't funny anymore! You alright?" He got closer and closer. The moment he crossed over into the shadows however another crack could be heard. Then the sound of a body hitting the floor. Robin walked out of the shadows. He had knocked both of the goons out and zip tied their arms and legs. Then he then duck taped their mouths closed.

Walking out into the light he was about to grapple his way back up when another goon turned the corner. He saw Robin standing of the unconscious forms of his friends and raised his gun.

"Sam?! Mike?! what's going on over her-ack!" Suddenly before he could finish his sentence two batarangs hit him. One pierced his throat and the other into his skull. He hadn't sworn off killing entirely though. He had deemed this death necessary not to alert the other goons to his presence just yet. He would soon but right now there was still too many guards around the products.

As the night continued one by one Bruce knocked out and tied up most of the goons. Some of them had been killed but it was a very small number. Eventually a small group of them had caught on that something was hunting them down.

"What the hell is going on!" One goon shouted he was in an all grey trench and fedora with black pants.

"Damnit! Who the hell is out there!  You think you're tough huh? Do you know who you're messing with!" Suddenly a ball was thrown towards them from the shadows and exploded in smoke. From there all that could be heard was random gun shots into the smoke followed by cries into the dark.

When all was said and done the goons had all been knocked out and tied up. He got a quest completion notification and collected the rewards from it. After that he dragged one into the dark and woke him up. He began to interrogate him making sure that it was dark enough the man couldn't see him. He did this because in reality an eight year old kid wasn't very scary no matter how they were dressed. After waking the man up he asked him more about what they were bringing into the city.

It turned out that they were importing large amounts of cocaine into the city. They were planning on turning it into crack. Then they would sell it in lower end areas like crown point. His knowledge from his previous life had helped remember that during the 80's there was a large crack epidemic that may have had government dealings or influence. At least that's what he learned from watching snowfall.

He also learned about the locations of a few more major drug dens as well. Getting all this info meant having to break a couple bones. After that he knocked the man out. Finally he took some samples from inside the creates before setting most of it on fire with matches from his utility belt. He thought maybe he could use his tricorder on them at some point but for now this was all he needed to do.

Robin after reviewing his handiwork called Alfred and had the police contacted. Soon after that he returned home on his bike. On his way back home however he made a much more important observation. Although he couldn't remember his training and in fact many things in his memory were spotty at best. He could somehow do things he shouldn't as Alfred hadn't taught him them. He hadn't copied some moves either but rather just new. When he was interrogating that criminal from earlier or when he threw knives at Joe Chill. All things he could do without relearning how to.

This lead to Bruce forming a theory that he had a strange sort of mussel memory instinct that allowed him to do things his previous self could. Like starting on new game plus rather than just from the beginning of life. Still this part of him was just another mystery to be solved. He still needed to achieve his goals and bring lasting peace and justice to Gotham.

Eventually he left on the Robin bike and road to meet back up with Alfred. Soon after they left  for the bat-cave and parked both vehicles inside. From there Bruce informed Alfred of his findings and began to label the general areas of all the known drug dens of the Falcone family he had gathered. The two continued to talk for a while after that discussing what upgrades and resources they might need. They also discussed their continued approach toward taking down the Falcones as well as the other crime families in Gotham.

Sure they could go to the publicly known residence of the Falcone family. But even if they did kill or capture every member of the Falcone family. The resulting power vacuum would lead to a gang war over the now empty Falcone family territory and wealth. Plus that also leads room for gangs like Salvatore Maroni's expanding preexisting operations throughout Gotham city. The upside is that it may prevent the rise of certain villains but it also may prevent heroes from emerging as well. Either way going for direct vengeance against the Falcones wasn't the way to go for now. Instead Bruce decided to focus on crippling their operations and lowering their supply lines. Meanwhile he would continue his training and completely annihilate smaller gangs that won't be missed or replaced. Still he had a lot of things left on his to do list of tasks.
