Phoebe woke up with a throb in her head. She was certain she had gone to bed all fine yesterday. Maybe some water would do.
She went downstairs meeting a few workers who bowed to her. She did not acknowledge their presence and went on to the kitchen. One wanted to speak to her badly but since she did even bait an eye, she too forgot about whatever she had for the young miss.
Phoebe felt much better after drinking the water. She had made up her mind yesterday before going to bed to go to the gallery today. In this lazy state, there is no way she was going.
"Hey baby, how was your night," her mum came to her planting a kiss on her forehead.
"Ugly." she replied with a scrunch of her slippers on the white marble floor.
"You did not sleep well. It might have been your type of sleeping position," Milly told her.
"Sorry honey,"
Mother and daughter began to make something for themselves to eat. Since their dad wasn't back from his trip yet and Phoenix has also letf them, it was only the two of them. And they were okay as long as each could by the other's side.
Milly loved to be by her daughter's side. She would always be seen beside Phoebe.
Phoebe was the first of the twins. Phoenix came out fifteen minutes after she came into this world. This made the couples to cherish Phoebe very much living Phoenix to herself.
Milly had always seen how talented her daughter is. At the age of two Phoebe began to paint objects fascinating everyone around her.
Well...
She didn't care much about Phoenix and knew nothing about her likes or dislikes. Apart from knowing her to be a CEO, she didn't care.
"Mom," Phoebe called out to her.
Milly was in a conservation with one of the workers. She seemed to give her some information on something.
Phoebe did not see whatever that the worker gave to her mum. She had her attention on the steak she was frying and was almost done with their food.
"An invitation card," Milly whispered into her daughter's ear.
"From who," Phoebe did not turn. After serving two plates of steak, toast, boiled eggs and some vegetables, she finally faced her mum who was busily reading through the card.
"It's from the Worcestershires. They're inviting us to a ball."
Phoebe stared at her mom in wonder, her cheeks flushing red.
"It's been a while since we saw each other. Since your dad has been busy we haven't time to visit them." Her mom explained to her on some reasons for the invitation card.
Miss Phoebe was nowhere near her mom's voice.
'Perry would be there.'
"When is it?" She forced herself out of her thoughts and asked.
"Tomorrow," Milly checked it the third to be sure it was the right date.
"What? I've not prepared my dress mom!" She shouted as if her mother was the one making her attend the ball.
"I've also not prepared mine." Milly retorted.
"We have to inform your dad and sister. Then go to V's to get our dresses. Come on, no time wasting." Both of them walked out of the kitchen forgetting about the food that Phoebe prepared.
.
.
.
"Sorry to bother you." Phoenix finally picked the call. The phone had been ringing for how many times, she had no idea.
"The Worcestershires have brought in an invitation card." Anna informed her.
Phoenix rubbed her eyelids continuously. She had slept well last night. It was six, she was not going to the office in the morning. She would work at home.
"You listening..."
"Yeah," she responded, cutting Anna off.
"I'm getting your dress ready and..."
"I'm not going," she cut her off again.
"But, it's part of the contract ..."
"Phoebe and the rest will go. I don't need to be there." She made it clear to Anna.
Her family would be there since they've known them for a while. Phoebe would be very happy to be there. Attending balls was one of her dailies.
"Bring me last week's report. I won't be coming this morning." With that, she hanged up. She saw missed calls from Phoebe and her mom.
"What do they want?" She dropped the phone beside her and fell back onto the bed.
She wanted to go back to sleep. No, that was it. And the day begins. She went downstairs after her morning ritual; cleaning her face, finding new ways to deal with her long black hair.
"Good morning," she was greeted by Freddie.
'They are still here.'
"Good morning," she responded, followed with a smile.
After leaving them here, she thought they would go to their place. It's okay. She somehow needed company.
"Where's she?"
Freddie directed her to the kitchen without looking at her side. He was busily watching a football match and did not want to miss a second of it.
"Hey,"
"Now someone's in the mood to talk." Willmar was frying some sausages and eggs.
"Need a hand,"
"Plates please." Phoenix filled two glasses with orange juice and began to set the table. They sat down to eat their breakfast without the man. Freddie won't mind them if they are to call him. The football match was all that he wanted to watch.
"What is it?" Willmar always playing as the mom.
"Perry's people sent an invitation card to Anna. It's tomorrow and I declined it." Willmar's cutlery slowly left her hand.
"I Know. Besides, Phoebe would be there. I'm also not in the mood to go anywhere." She explained herself before Willmar could throw any tantrums at her.
"Baby girl," Willmar got off her seat to Phoenix's side, hugging her from behind.
"It's okay." She consoled her friend. Phoenix showed no regret on her face but the other misjudged her state. She was somehow ---sad.
"You know the guy would be very happy to see you there," she said, making something jolt in her friend's hand. She quickly placed her cutlery down.
"You forgot about him. So soon," Willmar was now in front of her. She stood with arms akimbo eyeing her friend who looked like a fish caught in a hook.
"I, I ...I,"
"You what? How could you Phoenix. I set you up with a guy and you've completely forgotten about him. Twenty-four hours have not even passed yet." Willmar said with a hint of sadness, shaking her head vehemently.
"I am disappointed in you. Way DISAPPOINTED!" She said emphasizing on the the last word.
