Chapter 1 - chapter 1

Sasha

I slipped through the darkness like a specter, the shadowy passageways of the Moretti estate shrouded in a chilling quiet. My heart raced, driven by a potent mix of fear and retribution. Tonight, I would target the heart of the empire that had destroyed my family - the Morettis would face the consequences of their actions.

I navigated the security system with nimble hands, disabling the advanced protections as if they were mere toys. Years of careful planning had led me to this point, and I was determined not to let any emotion compromise my meticulously planned attack.

The door to the vault opened quietly, and I entered, the dim light from my table casting shadows over the piles of money and priceless items. However, my true goal was to find the proof that would expose Luca Moretti's downfall.

My fingers moved swiftly across the keyboard, breaking into the hidden files deep within the system.

Success. I grinned as the files began to transfer, the evidence of my revenge now within my grasp. The abrupt sound of footsteps in the corridor broke the silence, and I spun around, my heart beating out of sync. With a few quick keystrokes, I activated the system's lockdown, locking down the exits and securing a moment of escape.

The door to the vault burst open with a loud noise, and I found myself facing a dozen guns, held by Moretti's guards. Clearly, this was not going to be a quiet operation.

"Well, well." a smooth voice echoed from the shadows. "It's the notorious Sasha Ivanov."

Luca Moretti emerged from the light, his sharp features twisted into a menacing grin. Even in the midst of danger, he exuded a confidence that was both infuriating and captivating.

I straightened, not showing any sign of fear as his intense stare swept over me.

"You believe you've won, Moretti?" I sneered, my tone laced with contempt. "You're unaware of the danger you're facing."

His grin grew wider, and he signaled for his men to put down their weapons. "Harsh words for someone at my mercy," he mumbled, moving closer until I could smell the rich scent of his cologne.

His approach made me uneasy, and I tightened my grip on my fists, trying to conceal the jitter in my hands. I was determined not to let him see any weakness, especially when I was so close to achieving my revenge.

"Are you challenging me?" I met his intense gaze head-on, returning his with a defiant look. "Because I'm not one to be easily swayed, Moretti.

His grin remained steady, but there was a flash in his eyes, a sign of respect perhaps, or a sinister curiosity. "We'll see about that," he said softly, his words carrying a promise hidden in their smoothness.

As his men dragged me away, I couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the start of a perilous journey– a game that would push the boundaries of my resolve and drag me deeper into the dangerous realm of the Morettis than I could have ever imagined.

The hallway seemed to stretch on forever as Moretti's men dragged me through the labyrinthine halls of his lavish home. My mind was in overdrive, calculating escape routes and backup plans, yet I forced myself to keep a poker face. Revealing any hint of the turmoil brewing inside me would be like handing them a weapon to use against me.

Finally, we arrived at a pair of intricately carved double doors, and my captors shoved me through them with excessive force. I stumbled but managed to keep my balance, standing my ground as I faced the man directly.

Luca Moretti reclined in a high-backed leather chair, one leg stretched out in a display of casual superiority. His penetrating gaze swept over me, and I resisted the temptation to flinch under his intense scrutiny.

"Leave us," he ordered, not lifting his eyes from me.

The guards paused, clearly hesitant to leave their leader alone with someone they saw as a threat. But a single look from Moretti was enough to have them start to leave, their heavy steps fading into an uneasy silence. "Comfortable?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

I rolled my eyes, folding my arms across my chest. "As comfortable as one can be in the den of a snake."

A low chuckle escaped his lips, rich and unexpectedly warm– the kind of sound that could charm a woman right out of her defences if she let herself. "Such harsh words, Miss Ivanov. And yet, I thought you preferred a more… understated approach."

"Subtleties have their place," I replied smoothly, "but I've never been one to hold back, Moretti. Especially not with someone who clearly enjoys the sound of his own voice."

A muscle tensed in his jaw, and for a brief moment, I caught a glimpse of the savage beast beneath his polished exterior. But just as quickly, the mask slipped back, his full lips curving into a smile that somehow made me want to slap it off his smug face.

"You're diving into a risky venture," he pondered, nonchalantly twirling the golden liquid in his glass. "A venture that, if you're not careful, could land you in… unstable situations."

I let out a sharp laugh, not letting his veiled warnings intimidate me.

"Is this what you're up to, Moretti? Trying to scare me with your wealth and influence?" I leaned in, gripping the edge of his desk with determination, meeting his gaze head-on. "Let me make it clear, since you seem to think you're too big for subtlety. Nothing will change my mind. Not money, not threats… and definitely not you."

His eyes sparkled like pieces of finely cut glass, and he gracefully moved around the desk, towering over me. My breath hitched as his large figure enveloped mine. The strong smell of his cologne filled my nostrils.

"We'll see about that," he murmured, his voice cool and detached. Then, with a thoughtful nod, he stepped back, leaving me to catch my breath and berate myself for the sudden realization that I might have been caught.

He seemed so confident, which made me question how I had managed to get caught this time.

I believed that because I had worked diligently after previous failed attempts, I wouldn't be caught and would successfully infiltrate his system, given how close I was to achieving it. But the son of a bitch was prepared this time. My confidence had been my downfall this time, thinking I could outwit him, but he wasn't just sitting there looking impressive.

"For now," he said, his voice once again coming off as aloof and infuriatingly distant, "You'll be staying with me, Sasha. I hope the stay will be… satisfactory."

As his bodyguards re-entered and grabbed me by the arms, I gave him one last look over my shoulder. This was far from over—that was for sure.

But as they dragged me through the opulent hallways, I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that was slowly creeping up on me.

Because deep down, beneath Luca Moretti's cool exterior, I could sense a dangerous, intense energy that might just turn out to be more than I could handle.
